Rumors that Polynesian Resort may be rebuilt

I would love to see a complete refurb of the entire resort. I'd make it taller so you could get a really great view of the MK.

I could actually see them making it taller. Afterall, there is very little spare land near it and with them undoubtedly wanting to build DVC there eventually - its got to go somewhere!

IMHO that would be the ONLY reason they'd every do anything major to the resort - to add capacity.

As for the original blog post, it appears its by someone who has some strange obsession with the Poly and was just desperate for something major to happen there!

Nope, not Steve's style. I was there shortly after he was and my contacts certainly talked like something was up. But nothing firm and everything was a possibility. There is definitely a need to do something to the GHC. I would bet no rebuild but some significant upgrades.

Don't forget that the business model of DVC basically demands that they constantly have a sufficient supply of interests to sell until they reach the turnover point of the current contracts in 2042. We're only a fraction of the way there since they started selling, so in a sense we have only a fraction of the rooms they need so far.

it also requires a sufficient supply of buyers as well though :)

agree...the rubber will meet the road on this at some point long before 2042...

the united states doesn't have the earning power among the masses to supply enough buyers longterm...because disney doesn't float everyone's boat and since basically only the "upper" class is going to be available to buy in the near future...there won't be enough signatures to peddle the contracts...

but i looked at the rack rates....$405 is the cheapest room for a 1970 constructed hotel?

please...why in the hell would they ever do anything to leave that kinda drachmas off the ledger while they rebuild?

Its a gold mine...that with the redonkulous ticket prices and $35.00 character breakfasts?

they will add a DVC...if somebody wants to give me a microphone and a reporter to cover it...i'll make the announcement right now in my back yard.

and they may (probably will have to) redo the ceremonial house or add another service building...but people are dumb enough to pay an average of 500 bucks a night for the thing...yes, that is dumb for what you get...and why would you mess with that?

the accountants surely won't...bet on it

I have never been interested in DVC, but the Poly is my favorite resort. I would have to at least look into DVC it if the POLY was an option. Tikiman is a reliable source.
