I love those prayer flags. So pretty  why won't it be ready next Friday?? Sigh.

Is it just me or is the new FP+ interface trickier to use? Maybe I just need to get used to it but I was sure fighting it trying to change my FP's to a new park yesterday.

And DS will be starting Kindergarten, and won't be able to take him out of school for 5 days --- our holiday trip is tradition for us --- can anyone relate?

This was us two years ago. We have gone to Disney for Thanksgiving every two years since 1997, when my parents decided to buy DVC. I have three younger siblings, and two of them, along with myself now have our own kids, so scheduling has gotten harder.

When DD (now 10) was in 1st grade, we took her out for the week following Thanksgiving because I just couldn't give up that trip. It was fine. The next time, she was in 3rd, and that was harder, so we took her out for 2 days before (they have a half day the Wednesday before Thanksgiving), and 2 days after.... That was rougher, and I caught some flak from the teacher (which I understand, and feel guilty about, but this is my favorite time with my kids). Next year she will be in 5th grade (and my little one with be in 1st grade)... and I am going to take them out for 2 days before, and 1 day after (See, I'm getting better each time :rolleyes1). Heaven knows what I will do once she is in middle school. My in-laws already think I am a horrible parent for taking my children out of SCHOOL, to go to DISNEY - which they see as a complete waste of money (they live in Florida, and we can't even get them to join us for more than an afternoon there!).

But this year we have an added dilemma. I just found out that my brother and his family (1st grader and 2 year old) won't be coming for the Thanksgiving trip, nor will my sister (no kids). There will still be 10 of us (other brother and their two little ones, and my parents), but it will feel so weird. My mom and I were talking about it, and we are going to have to find another time of year to do the whole family.... but it makes me sad. I love Disney at Thanksgiving. We always stay until the Monday after just so that we can do MVMCP.

So I definitely feel your pain. I am guessing that will all my nieces and nephews spread all over the country (Northeast, Pacific Northwest, California), and everyone having different school breaks, the only time we are going to be able to organize is summer. :scared: I am sure I will find things to like about summer at Disney too, I am just going to miss our annual tradition.

My 2 cents:
The tradition should be taking the trip to Disney, picking a specific time each year will really handcuff the group. I also think you are limiting yourself by only visting one time of the year. What about Spring at Epcot, Christmas decorations in the parks, cooling off at the pools and waterparks in the summer.
As for the in-laws, do what you think is best for your kids, just as they did when they were your age...:crazy2:

:offtopic: I am trying to get clothes ready to pack. We arrive this Saturday. We are yearly August visitors so I know how that feels, hot and sweaty 24/7, 2 outfits a day. I've never been in April. Is it just as oppressive and sticky? I'm trying to pack lighter this time, if I can. lol

We've had a rash of beautiful weather lately - not muggy at all. I think it's supposed to rain on Saturday, but there has consistently been enough of a breeze that even through it will be a little wet, the air moving will keep it from being sticky.

All of our previous trips had been August before we went in April last year. It was a nice change! I didn't find it as oppressive and sticky. It did get hot during the afternoon - good swimming weather, but I found the mornings and evenings quite pleasant!

My DD7 really wants to see TFA. We decided no in the theater because of the village massacre and THE scene. She's seen the DVD at our house and asking about it. DH is really uncomfortable with her seeing it, I'm ambivalent. We'll see. Maybe we'll let her watch it in time for ep 8. :cutie:

I hesitated with a 11 and 9yo. Yes, the other reason I wanted to see it was to screen it for them. I agree about the village scene, THE scene, and even the planet destruction scene was tough to me. Glad I was prepared! It's so tough because the market the toys to the younger kids, plus the cartoons. They're dying to see it but some of it is a little tough for them! I told my kids that I would give them spoilers if they wanted, if they thought it would make it easier on them! My DH11 wanted to know if Chewie survived before and asked for that "spoiler!" After we got home, my DS took to his bed and put a sign on his door: "Need some time" - we had a lot to process when he emerged!

Oh! Bless his heart.

I remember staying up late every night to read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince right after it came out. I was 12, and totally not prepared for the big scene at the end. I woke my mother up crying, but refused to tell her what had happened because she hadn't read it yet :sad2:

You are totally right, and I think it is actually that not everyone can come that is bothering me (rather than having to reschedule), and finding a time that everyone can manage. Every time I experience a new season at Disney it has things I enjoy. We had only done fall trips for years (especially after discovering Food & Wine), but then I did a trip with just my daughters two summers ago and had a blast. We even did a split stay (something I had always avoided before), and really liked it! We leave for our first ever April trip in 3 days, and are excited about F&G, and was hoping for ROL, but, well... :sad2:. It's always Disney, so it's all good.

For this year I just have to decide what we want to do for Thanksgiving dinner. Last time there were 14 of us, and we ended up doing an amazing private event through Disney catering. It was unreal, and so special. My dad wants to do it again, but it is just too expensive to justify for 10 people (2 of whom are 3 and under). Our previous tradition was the Brown Derby, which is great too, but was thinking of maybe trying to do something in our room even :scared1: since we are in a 2 bedroom with a kitchen.

And for those who are packing... is anyone else required to bring an entire suitcase full of princess dresses and costumes? I don't even know why I bother packing DD6 regular clothes... all she wears all day long are her dress-up clothes. Even my DD9, who hasn't worn princess dresses to the parks for at least 3 years, is asking me to bring her Rey costume, as well as the giant Cinderella dress she got for Christmas. One of DD9's friends is going to be there the same time, and her mom said she was asking to bring a Belle gown... I told her to go for it. I love that Disney brings out the kids in these almost tweens. They are growing up too fast... I can't wait to see my girls in their ridiculous ball gowns climbing in and out of a splash mountain car:rotfl2::rainbow:. Makes me happy every time!

I just switched an 8:30 to an 8pm at BOG and moved LTT to 12:45 at least our full MK day is set I hope LOL. With an 8pm at BOG do you think we'll be able to get out by the time Wishes starts 10pm? We want to see it from the back of the castle that night. THNX I also think I know what I'm doing with my nails. Bright pink with a black and white design, not exactly Disney but i like it

DH and I saw the movie before letting DD9 and DD6 see it. I was really hesitant about DD6, but she was the one who really wanted to see it after watching the original Star Wars trilogy (IV, V and VI). She ended up being fine, her main comment being that "Leia was really old" :rotfl:. She actually ended up seeing it twice, since I offered to take them to see Kung Fu Panda 3 one weekend, and they both told me they would rather see TFA again. Ok by me!:woohoo:

And even better, for this upcoming trip, they are both excited to do Jedi Training... something I could never get them interested in before. Our first park day will actually be at HS... also a first for us since Magic Kingdom is usually our first stop. Three more days! Can't wait!

Four more days for me - also can't wait! Need to focus!

MY (older son) had a tougher time with TFA than my daughter, but that's just how he is. He has a hard time with the Toy Story movies because the toys are in jeopardy, so go figure! Jedi Training is awesome! My DD9 has never wanted to participate, but my DS11 has loved it - he doesn't want to do it this year and it's a bit bittersweet! They'll love it!

That's so funny about what your DD6 said about Leia! The first time my son saw the trailer for TFA, he turned to me and said, "Why is Han Solo so....old?" My response to him was, "Not to me, buddy!"
