Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

For those who can benefit...here are the 7 stages of grief...at one time or another I've hit every single one of them with our journey along this "river"....not preaching here, just saying I got all the to acceptance, but I went back and forth a couple of times on some of them. Not sure the bargaining or guilt apply, but the anger and depression sure do!

- Shock or Disbelief
- Denial
- Anger
- Bargaining
- Guilt
- Depression
- Acceptance and Hope
I think I hit all of them and that was just today. Seeing I'm not going for a few months I'm scared how many of them I will experience again. Time for another:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1

If anybody happens to spot me any of the days, feel free to stop me and say hi! I'll have my pin on my bag all week. I figure I can post a family pic just before we go too. It would be nice to see some of the people I've been sharing in this craziness with! :D

Same here. I'll be on the look out for anyone else wearing a button or shirt the first week of May. I'll have my button on my bag.

Must go console myself with the TFA DVD that arrived today. Squeeeeeeeee!! :darth::chewy:

Just got my call from Austin. He's so nice, I couldn't be angry with him....not that I would have been anyway, but still. He said he didn't know anything about the postponement until he got in to work today. Must not have worked yesterday. So....it is finished...now on to our new plans! Stiff upper lip, and all that!!

I just got a call from Austin, whom I spoke to before. He apologized about the delay in the opening of RoL and said basically what others reported above. Very nice guy! He also said that the other nighttime attractions will open up around the same timeframe as RoL, and that there is not a definite date for the opening, just that they expect another update to come mid to late May on the Blog. I thanked him for his special attention and said I was looking forward to the opening when I return in October.

Personally, I would rather they didn't open it until all the glitches are out and the show is consistently up to Disney standards!

Just got off the phone with Olivia. She was very nice and apologetic and I feel bad for the calls she had to make. No new news, all extra events are postponed and more info to be released mid to late May. At least she didn't end the call with 'Have a magical day!'

I received the famous Disney survey e-mail a few hrs ago --- I figure that now is not the time to take it --
Discretion being better part of valor right now !!

It's sad that I am not surprised, but it just feels par for the course this trip. Fortunately, I'd left a night wide open in our planning. At this point, I am only getting excited for what I KNOW is there (the pressure is on, Flower and Garden!). If RoL or the new Star Wars nighttime spectacular actually open or heck, even Symphony in the Stars is still happening, won't that be nice for us...

This thread, like Yullin's Star Wars thread, has become my solace and therapy. Thanks for being endlessly entertaining and kind, y'all!

This delay does leave me pondering a few things. Is this whole venture being handled in house or are there specialized consultants on board? If in house, then Disney is looking at the impact of loss of revenue due to the delay. If outsiders were brought in, there could be large liquidated damages associated with missing this deadline. It certainly stinks for those who had been planning around this but those on the other end are most likely sick to their stomachs. People's jobs could be at stake and that doesn't make for a happy place. Something had to have gone really, really wrong.

I've been lurking and following this thread with interest since a good while back - we are skipping AK on our May trip, and after the ridiculousness that just happened, I'm kind of glad. We just missed the opening of 7DMT when it started, but at least there wasn't this much hype.

Very sorry for the people for whom this is a once in a long while or once in a lifetime trip, though. Maybe this will remind the business side of Disney that releasing things before they are absolutes is generally not a great plan!

I'm hoping it will be ready if I manage to get into and go to Princess in February though :)

And I'm glad that everyone can finalize their plans, whatever they may be! I look forward to keeping up with the chatter anyway :D

Just had a call from Olivia, who like Jenny yesterday, was very nice and apologetic.

I asked how many of these calls she'd had to make and she said "quite a few." I also expressed my confusion at why the other nighttime activities couldn't go on as planned and she said she wondered that too but did not know the answer. Maybe just because they wanted everything to open together or maybe because there were other difficulties.

We've learned there are no guarantees with ROL. On the other hand, chatter? I'm 100% sure this thread will deliver. :rotfl:
