And it's seems to be rolling out so quickly - announced today, a date to purchase tickets, events in April and May! Gee, maybe I should give up trying to get a preview party for ROL, and go for one of these!

I have to say, this is the 5th trip that I've planned in about 7 or 8 years, and it has been the weirdest!

At least it gave us all something else to get up in arms about.

I guess losing EMH is one thing, but if they close the park early (like by 7) just so they can charge people $150 to stay until 10, then I'd be pretty upset, especially if it happened frequently. I was there one year when they closed down MK for a PRIVATE party, and all the riff-raff (paying customers, on property and off property) were escorted to the gates. One thing to close for Holiday parties, guests can still shop or dine, but to just shut the place down... "How Rude!"

We use them quite a bit, but not all the time - we mix in some morning EMH - can't do too many or hit a wall! Haven't done a lot of the evening ones, mostly due to the age of my kids, but looked forward to doing more of them! I agree with what @jlundeen is saying too! That would be rough!

I always avoid parks with EMH. It wouldn't bother me at all if they were gone.

That might be it for us too, as far as on-site. Or at least not every trip...

We are going to have AP's this year, two trips. Then it's break time for at least a year. We move in early 2017 and that will be enough fun and games.
Seriously, I'll have to look at Disney carefully after that. I am hoping they will reverse the cutting things trend.

Me too! We used to do summer, but we've been steering away from that since the last trip, but we don't want to do our spring break next year, since its Easter week. So it will most likely be 2018 for us (although never say never), but the cutting trend will definitely impact things...we get Disney is expensive but when you feel like you're getting less for your $, which is how I have felt while planning this trip, it's a tougher pill to swallow!

Every day that we don't get FP + reservations or expanded hours I'm starting to think something is up. If there's nothing new by Thursday the 24th (Under 30 days left before the public opening), I'm going to throw my hands up and assume the park will close at 6 PM and choose Boathouse for Mom's Birthday dinner. I'm really thinking we are getting a seasonal event or it's delayed until June.

People seem to have a lot of trouble coping with the uncertainty.

Assuming you don't want to change your AK day, what I would do in your case is to schedule your mother's birthday dinner for an adjacent day. Just make it a done deal, and stop stressing about it. If something better turns up, you can change, but at least you know you've locked in a convenient, wonderful dinner. And that frees you to be more flexible on your AK day, which helps reduce the stress. If, perchance, you can book a great dinner in AK on her birthday, that's easy to make a last minute change of intent - or celebrate both nights. But either way, you know the b-day dinner is covered.

What you don't want is to have to chaos for the b-day dinner just to lock in ROL.

Ok, can someone tell me what just happened today with a special ticketed event. 8 PM closures, etc? I have my schedule halfway finished and this will be the last straw. I will cancel every bit of my upcoming visit, and I'm exactly 45 days out. This is too much.

Okay, I must have some of type of ROL-related dementia, because I think that I am there during the dates of these events too and it hadn't occurred to me that it could really impact my plans. Seriously?? Now I have to go figure that out?

and yet I still can't book a preview party or a FP for ROL...

I think Angi might be a good source of advice on this as we hear more. She's been reading on the thread about the extra event.
I believe I read possibly the closings are later anyway, and then the extra hours are very late, maybe?
Can't back read there now, I have to zip back into real life and pull together some dinner. Will be back later.

I have not seen - and I may have missed it - but I haven't seen when the "after-hours" starts, whether the park closes early or it's later at night.

Us too. We actually like the EMH (especially the PM's for DH and I). One more "perk" gone while $$$$ goes up and cuts are being made all over the place ... we will take DD2 for her 5th birthday next year (tradition, so I don't feel right not doing that trip for her), but I think I am going to try to talk DD1 OUT of Disney for her 13th b-day trip if this keeps up. They've already priced us out of the DDP, so this is just one more thing.

Now I'm off to read the book ... I mean thread, about the MK open after hours pay for nothing promotion that was announced earlier ...

This after hours thing, is happening when we are there, so I looked May 5th, it says MK closes at 10. And May 8th 11pm. But that may change. As of right now that's what the Disney app says.

We use the morning ones - the evening always seemed so crowded until the last half hour or so but we never lasted that long anyway. We are from the west coast so I blame the time zone.
