Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

May I add another point? We know that a certain number of the tickets for the premium event are already spoken for. It's hard to know how many are left for the general public. Tickets for the event on the 15th may be pretty available, or they may be very limited.

Good point! Who even knows if the other two with have some type of limitations on availability (meaning maybe priority to passholders, etc.).

So, if we're to presume the details of the two different level are accurate - yes, I know, they're unconfirmed, but just for a moment humor me...

I'm reflecting on the differences between the two so as to inform my cost/benefit ratio as I throw my entire itinerary up in the air if I score one...

One (premium) is open to 4,000 and the other 8,000 - correct? And we think the park is closed to people without tickets, correct?

Is this a huge difference - not in a math sense, I know it's double - but I guess I'm not sure what that means in terms of what it would be like in the park?

Any AK experts in the audience that could give an opinion or a sense of things?
I believe it was noted that average daily attendance at AK is 30,000 (in a comment somewhere that stated 3 shows at 5,000 each meant only half the guests would be able to see ROL). If that's accurate, the difference between 4,000 and 8,000 seems minimal from a crowd perspective.

I think it all depends on how many TOTAL attendees there are...
  • The HUB post refers to how many tickets will be SOLD... don't know if more will be GIVEN OUT TO OTHERS for either of these, though we do know that one poster here has a ticket for Apr 15th...
  • We know capacity is 5,000 per show. Each preview cites 2 showings of RoL -- they COULD accommodate 10,000 people for each preview event...
Other thoughts...
  • Does anyone have a sense of how many people used to stay in AK when they used to have evening EMH?? I ask because we used to do those all the time, and the park felt near-empty!
  • I'd assume safari post-sunset will be very busy, as might be the food locations. I would guess that other rides left open will have very little wait -- this seems to be the case with these after hours events. Relatively few people (as compared to daily attendance of 30K) spread throughout the park.

Thanks - all good factors to consider - yes, it would be helpful to hear about the evening EMH - I've never done one there!

And I imagine with evening EMH, certain attractions would be closed, as we've heard they would be here...

Yes -- not everything was open for late EMH... I bet I still have a trip workbook that lists which ones were open... (Excel geek).

As I review my itinerary and consider possible changes to accommodate a mythical preview party, it occurs to me that when I review it with DH tonight, I will have to fess up to him about the recent additions to the schedule...such as the Star Wars Dessert Party... :rolleyes1

I will need to dazzle him with details about all this fun stuff, and my double secret stash of funds.... :squirrel:

It sounds similar to what they're saying for this - did they just end the safaris at sunset?

Plus, it sounds like there will be some additional stuff in the evening now too, so probably at the preview party (?), such as music for the tweens! And the Discovery island carnival, tree of life awakening, etc...

Were you able to successfully change your FP+ to a different park? I read your post on the FP thread, and looked at it on the APP but didn't want to chance it until I knew more about the availability of AK night FPs...

Yes! I will prey upon the weak-minded!

I will also show him @yulilin3 's pictures from her review - that will get him on the hook. Or I could be really evil and show those pictures to my son, who will go gaga over it, and then let him try to say no! No no no, I couldn't do that to DH!

I couldn't figure it out on the app, but didn't really spend too much time on it yet. At this point, I still don't know what - if anything - will change with our schedule. I'm not doing anything until I have a bird in the hand, so to speak! But, thinking about it today, if we go to a preview party, it really might change up what we do on other days. Because that would be an evening that we didn't plan on going to AK, so for example, maybe on our AK morning day, we'd change our FPs to our evening park or something. I had kept our evenings fairly open, because generally that's how our touring style has developed, but I would probably make some changes and make some more definite plans for the evening. Am I making sense?

:offtopic: But I have to share!

I just put my weekly donation into my double secret stash :squirrel: and then I added up what I had and what need to do unsanctioned Ohana, Star Wars Dessert and ROL Mythical Preview Party (non-premium!). I hadn't really figured it out in all the excitement...

I have exactly $1 more than I need! How weird is that? And a month more to save! Now, if we did the premium party, I'd have a ways to go!

It is *almost* dancing banana worthy...but not quite...

I'm not sure why people keep saying the show capacity is 5,000. The SEATING capacity is 5,000. But it's a big show on a big lake with walkways everywhere. I don't doubt that 8-10k can watch the show comfortably at a time. Plus, daily attendance may be 30k. But how many stay the whole time to watch the show? How many families head back to the hotel and don't come back? How many skip it altogether because they've seen it a few times and want to take another spin on the Safari? Etc. 30,000 people is all the people who walked through the turnstile all day, whether they came in for a character breakfast and left or if they came in for the evening EMH. It doesn't mean that there are 30k people there at night every night.

OK... don't think anyone here disagrees... :confused3 Pretty sure most of us here considering paying for a preview event DO care about getting a SEAT, though.

This post was in response to one specifically about the rumored PREVIEW EVENTS and comparing one where they are selling 4,000 tix (Apr 15) to one where they are selling 8,000 tickets (Apr 16). The question was about whether the latter would FEEL much more crowded. That's all.
