Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

He's the weird guy with the Ubangi earring/lobe who convinced Disney to build that monstrosity called Animal Kingdom.
I take it that you don't like AK?

Anyways it wasn't just him. Eisner very much wanted the park otherwise he wouldn't have given approval.

I bring a news update! Although it's not an update on when it will be ready. Apparently they can get the show to run once through sometime but can't get it to run through a second time which would be problematic if Disney wants to do this twice or three times a night. Sometimes they can't even get one full run through.

I have to admit that seeing the video preview made my heart hurt more for not being able to see it second week of May. Disappointed, but beautiful things take time and I'd hate to be in the midst of the show and have it all go dark halfway through. Also, I was a puddle through Tapestry of Dreams / Nations. I can't imagine what ROL will do to me when I finally do get to see it!

Though looking on the bright side, it will give me an excuse to book another trip sooner than planned!!! :p

June and onward peeps are beholden to give us a full report!! :)

I will still stalk hopeful Symphony in the Sky Dessert Party for May. I am a sucker for punishment! :badpc:

On a slightly positive note, I was just able to score an 8:25 BOG breakfast for my new MK day :) Thank you SO much to the person who suggested the touringplans Reservation Finder. It worked like a charm within days. Too many pages to scroll through and find that post! I'm sure the sudden availability means there must be a Morning Magic event planned for that day, but oh well. I actually did want to try the breakfast at BOG and I suppose that might mean I will be able to get on some early rides for "free." I wonder if they will be able to distinguish early ADR guests from MM guests.

I called to ask about the Early Morning Magic (or whatever it's called) this morning to get details. The young man I spoke to said guests who are part of the event would have stickers distinguishing them from guests with PPO ADRs. He said those with ADRs would be held back from the rides until park opening at 9am, but then they'll be allowed on with everyone else. So if nothing else, you're at least in the park before all the other rope drop guests.

Ok, going to ask one more time before i switch all my ADRs around arrrrgh

Is there a snowball's chance RoL will be operating (soft opening even) the week of May 8th?

No. The next announcement isn't even until mid to late May. I would say plan your trip without it.

That's pretty much what my friend has said. She said there was an issue with the GPS, and a separate issue with the barges. So she said on one hand, there were electricians trying to work on the barges, but then the people trying to work on the GPS system needed to borrow the barges to test them. So the work couldn't all be done at the same time.

Since I know this is a safe place and there is no such thing as being "off topic" in here ...

... we are keeping our AK day as is for May 5th and I have FPs for KS at 9:10, EE and Kali later in the day. Is Fastpassing the safari so early in the morning a waste of a FP? Would it make more sense to do it standby as soon as we walk over at opening and save the 3rd FP for Dinosaur or Primeval Whirl later in the afternoon?

I would guess that you won't need it so early in the morning if you head straight to KS at rope drop. If you'll have a smartphone with you in the park (or if you want to stop at a kiosk after), you could always hang onto the FP and use it if needed, or change it to something else if the standby line for KS isn't bad.

Pulled this from a FB site....anyone heard any rumors about the lights coming back? The location is "Muppets Courtyard" so must be a new link?

Figured we needed a new rumor to chase now :)

If you type into a search engine something like Disney Osborne Light Muppet Courtyard and scroll through, there are at least two or three from the official Disney website. I would typically just say that it's left over from last year but......

A. It was on the Streets of America last year
B. No one called it Muppet Courtyard before now.

So what do we think????

I thought they were dead & buried. I guess the only ones who know for sure are Disney & the Osbornes, but I'd be surprised to see them return.

From another board post:

"Hey gang, Tristan here, my wife is Breezy Osborne of The Osborne Family. Some facts:

1. No contracts were cancelled, the last contract ran out in 2015. (In previous posts I have said the contract ran through 2017, I was mistaken in that information.)

2. Disney owns the lights, the Osborne family (Breezy & Mitzi) own 99.9% of the apparatus used in the display. Pretty much everything except the canopy.

3. The apparatus are still in storage on Disney property.

4. There are currently ZERO plans to resurrect the lights in any way shape or form in regards to the SODL.

5. The family has received offers from just about every other major theme park in the USA and abroad as potential new homes for the display. (It's unlikely they will ever make it to any of those, since the family is adamant that the lights remain with Disney, or they come home and are donated to the city of Little Rock.)

6. The entire SODL team have all been either let go from the Disney company or they have been put on other projects.

These are the facts that we as the family know. Thanks for all the support, we want the lights to live on as much as you all do!!!

What on earth..? Aren't we supposedly within 2 weeks of previews? I am confused and yet really excited for whatever must be this complicated to pull off..!

Edited to add: sorry if I missed something - I was out with a nasty illness Friday-now and trying to catch up!

Another vote for pre-ordering. When we were there in June we pre-ordered for our 8:00 AM ADR during the bus ride over (since DD and nieces couldn't decide in advance). No line to check in, grabbed a table in the West Wing, and had our food (which was all correct with what we ordered) within 10 min of sitting down:yay:

Now, if only everything at Disney worked that efficiently:D

Do you get to choose your table freely? I am sure my kids would all get a kick out of dining in the Beast's room with the rose nearby. I can hear DD3 already going "its so preeeeeetty!"

Note to self. If miracles do occur and its open for my trip, go to first show of the night:tongue::rotfl::rotfl2:

In summary: No previews. ROL delayed; blog announcement of new opening date expected mid- to late-May. Hope you're feeling better!

This is exactly what we did in December.
