rumors I heard during last trip. True-Untrue???

Yeah I can't disagree with you however, Disney does find creative ways to get their IPs....Oswald.

The difference is that no one was really making money off Oswald prior to Disney regaining the rights. As far as we can tell Universal does very nicely indeed from the Marvel characters. It would be extremely expensive to buy that license back.

I imagine it may happen eventually, but we're talking decades, not years.

As a DIS shareholder I know this. Fact of the matter is they have worked together and will have to work together in the future. My guess is down the road some type of trade or payout will entail bringing Marvel over WDW but don't see that happening for at least 10 years.

Universal gained the theme park rights to the Marvel characters long before Marvel was ever a twinkle in Disney's eye. Universal and Marvel entered into a perpetual licensing deal in the 90s when Marvel was in severe financial distress. When Disney acquired Marvel, Disney and Universal were essentially forced to work together since the license extends for perpetuity. I'm sure it's not something either party particularly enjoys, but it is what it is.

Yes they work together but they don't necessarily want to.

I had a taxi driver tell me that Disney and Universal are close to agreeing on opening a park dealing with everything Marvel Studios. And both Universal and Disney will run it. Universal is in but Disney is not.
Also told me Universal is close to buying the Nintendo license. So they can have control of the Nintendo characters. This sounds cool to me. And Universal could easily switch out Marvel Island and make a Mario World. And last but not least, nothing major, but expect to see another Universal hotel. Sounds like Universal is growing and making an attempt to compete with Disney. Thoughts?
Disney is never going to partner with Universal on a project.

It's cordial. Listen they have to work on other issues besides just Marvel. There's cable retransmission for DIS networks and stations. They also have to work on legislative issues that come up for the industries so there's more dialogue than what you might think. This is also the case for other media companies. It's the nature of the business and it entails needing each other.

Yes they work together but they don't necessarily want to.

I just saw someone on wdwmagic post that it appears that Marvel is somehow coming to WDW with more details to follow. If true I wonder if they reached an agreement or if it's Guardians or what exactly?

Hmmm I'll have to check that out.

Something people don't realize is they make money from Marvel in Universal Parks. A few ways are through Merchandise Universal sells in IOA, they buy from various vendors like the Diamond Select Toys (makers of many of the AF in IOA) and the ads Universal buys in every Marvel Comic Book. Universal probably has to cover the costs of keeping the rides, so Disney basically gets money easily.

They do of course make money from merchandise but people say that Universal got the rights to characters for very little since Marvel was apparently having problems at the time. I doubt that Disney makes much from the Universal rights.
