RUMOR: When is Toontown closing?

I hope it's still open in December. My kdaughter has been looking forward to Mickey and Minnie's houses since they closed them at WDW. If they close it before we make it out there she'll be so upset.

They should just revive Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers. I say bring it back with a new school edge!!! Then kids today would know about Gadget when they get on her coaster.

Just out of curiosity, how much of the removal of Toontown Fair at WDW was simply a rumor before it was officially announced to be part of the Fantasyland overhaul? Granted, Mickey's Starland/Toontown Fair was never meant to be permanent, but my point is that rumors like the removal of Disneyland's Toontown for a Star Wars land could very well become confirmed fact.

Yes, it could become confirmed fact... Realistically, though, "Star Wars Land" rumors have been going on since the day the deal went down.... And, like Sasquatch/Bigfoot, or the Loch Ness Monster, the story keeps changing to fit the circumstances, but there's never any proof of it really happening. Before Toon Town was on the mythical chopping block, it was Tomorrow Land being totally revamped by the 60th anniversary. I even had a CM wink and nod when I asked her if it was true a few years ago that Tomorrow Land was getting the huge overhaul for the 60th. (Wow, they better get a move on that project, huh?!)

As in real life, fanciful Disney daydreaming can quickly go from "wouldn't it be nice if..." to "someone's cousin's brother's uncle's best friend's CM-sister confirmed this!" especially in the internet age!

Wasn't the Tomorrowland thing temporarily true though? I seem to remember that the plans were in the early stages before the WDW ticket/gateless entry fiasco made Disneyland have to change their plans.

I'm still mad that the monsters inc roller coaster didn't end up happening, too.

That's what got me nervous, is that the Toontown replacement may be true, too, even if it does turn out to be temporary as well. And I believe you're right about the WDW ticket fiasco putting a damper on Disneyland. But that's actually just one factor in the original plans being changed. Another factor is the building of the Disney park in Shanghai, which I'm quite sure is taking up a lot of the company's time and resources.

A few months, I found some posts from WDWMagic that stated that a Star Wars land replacing Toontown is indeed all but a done deal:

#1:
TDA is already beginning to relocate backstage services behind Toontown off-site and that process will continue into the next year. The site has the potential to be huge - picture most of the Ranch area, wrapping around the Fantasyland Theater, taking out Toontown and other backstage buildings around/behind it. This project is huge, and they want to open it in 2019, so construction will need to begin in earnest well before the 60th is over in 2016.

#2:
If they want to go big with Star Wars that’s where they have the most land. It does appear from various inside sources they are really aiming to announce at D23. If they continue to move stuff backstage around they could even start construction backstage and not disrupt the 60th celebration.

If you think about it, Toontown was the first step in this direction, and ironically, it will be the piece of the park to go.

Again, they keep ignoring the notion of fireworks being in the area. I also did not notice where they cited their information about TDA relocating services.

I would much rather see Toon Town revamped and updated based on Disney Jr. rather than eliminated and Star Wars expanded in Tomorrowland. Please get rid of the submarines! That ride was not redone well Nemo style IMO. I'd be fine with Autopia going too - I've always hated those fumes! Lol:) Whatever the changes, I know disney will do it well. I'm sure we'll be sad to see some things go but change is good!

One other thing they overlook are the building permits taken out to upgrade Roger Rabbit.... Why put $200,000 of improvements into a ride that would be demo'ed in the near future? Want to spend a few boring days? Start walking through all the building permits for that section of the property......

Well, for all that we know, maybe they have taken the building permits issue into account.

I had just read on MiceAge that the Innoventions building has been gutted, at least on the lower floor. So something is definitely happening, and it doesn't look like a 60th anniversary event either.

I just have to say that my kids love Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers. All those fun shows are on DVD... (but we don't have cable, so we watch everything either on Netflix or on discs) And I grew up watching it but somehow connected "Gadget's Go-Coaster" to Inspector Gadget in my head. Don't ask, I have no idea. Go-go Gadget coaster?

Those are all lies, as usual.

Rumor. And other rumors suggest it'll be a while (as in, not at the D23 Expo) before we hear anything.

Been to Mickey's Toontown many times over the past couple decades and I would have no problem at all seeing it go. That's my own personal opinion, and obviously there will be many to differ. As much of a Star Wars fan that I am, I would not like to see a Star Wars land. I would love to see a separate theme park based on Star Wars, but not a specific land at Disneyland. Although I don't think it's been mentioned here, I would also not like to see a Marvel land for the same reason and with the same caveat. There is no land based on a single franchise at Disneyland then I'd like it to stay that way even though both the Star Wars and the Marvel franchises are enormous.

I am really interested in seeing if there is any truth to this Star Wars Land rumor (with the elimination of Toontown), and I hope the news is revealed soon, just to end the suspense and speculation once and for all.

One thing I wonder.... IF the rumor of a Star Wars Land is true, and the Big Thunder Ranch area is rumored to be part of what would be torn down to make way for that land, would the fact that there is not going to be a Halloween Carnival (and possibly not a Jingle Jangle Jamboree either) this year have anything to do with that? Both the Carnival and the Jamboree are held in the Festival section of that whole area. But it appears that the Halloween Carnival is gone from this year's Halloween Time line-up (from all of the bits of info that have been collected and revealed). Could it be possible that Disney is already beginning to keep that space free of entertainment to prepare for whatever huge project is coming up, or would it be way too soon to start keeping that location entertainment-free?

The last couple of trips we haven't even ventured into TT except to catch the train late one night. The painted rocks. 60 second RC and general theming of the area just never appealed much to me.
I'm not a huge Star Wars fan either but would like to see what Disney could do with them and all the space available.

Sherry I was wondering the same thing about the Big Thinder Ranch area... To me it would make sense that they aren't having the carnival this year because they are planning on starting construction back there soon.

Personally I'm with the others who think if they're going to redo toontown (which they should update it in the least.) that they should go the Disney Jr route. Even if they kept it to just Mickey and the gang it would be more relevant
