I just read this on WDWMAGIC site. It is just a rumor but they have a pretty good track record.

"The long abandoned STOL airport near to the Transportation and Ticket Centre is set to be turned over to Imagineering from September 2006 until December 2009. It is speculated that this large area will be used as a staging area for a huge construction project at the Contemporary Resort. Rumors link the construction project to a possible introduction of a Disney Vacation Club wing. This information is not yet officially confirmed, and may be subject to change."

Back in December, I was told, that The CRV will be built. I was also told that the date had been pushed back as they ran into some issues with logistics, so this sounds pretty consistent.

I hope this turns out to be true. For young families, being so convenient to MK would be ideal. For us, Epcot is our choice, but I think a resort close to MK would be great!

Funny..my DW had the same reaction. I think sales for CRV will be HOT HOT HOT! People will go nuts to be on the monorail and close to MK.

I saw a previous person state that it would be by the monorail but my thought is it might be a significant walk before you get to the monorail. I always felt the appeal of the Contemporary is to see the monorail pass through the middle of it. I know that is what I thought in my youth and my 5 year old agrees with me.

If the DVC had easy access to the monorail then I would be interested.

The other thing is I wonder if people will dump their VWL points to get the potential Contemporary DVC resort.

What are your thoughts/speculations?

I agree. There's always lots of discussion as to location, but little about theming. To me, the theming is even more of a reason to stay on property than location.

I like your Down Under idea. I don't know why Disney hasn't done anything at all involving Australia yet. I've noticed that Disney rarely goes just for a "location" as a theme any more- it's more like a combination of history and location. Notice that all DVC resorts so far are an American location, and all themed like 100 years ago. This makes me wonder how a Contemporary resort would work.

Believe it or not, I know someone who has already done this. So yes, it will happen more.

I think the Contemporary DVC will happen because:

*Many of the rooms at the Contemporary Resort go unused now (see Disney Institute as an example)

*Disney could shift some of the upkeep (like the monorail and a badly needed new pool) to DVC folks who will gladly help pay for things through our dues every year.

*DVC provides serious profits for Disney (see the latest earnings of WDW and pay attention to the fact that DVC is mentioned)

*The last 3 DVC resorts used existing infastructure from already existing resorts. They have found a formula that works. Why change it?

There is a similar post here on the boards by Dean that also has the same information about a possible DVC resort at the Contemporary.

In addition to the DVC resort, there are rumors of a fifth Disney World theme park being built in the same area.

(As always, rumors aren't fact until I am walking in the gate.)

Surprisingly, I am thinking about adding on if this happens. Not that the CR itself is a big draw to me but I think it will be to many others and easy to rent as well having the longer expiration date. Actually what my wife and I are discussing is buying CR and selling everything else. Likely only buying a small package of 50-100 points (in smaller denominations) or so but it will depend to a degree on the incentives at the time. We can trade in for a 1 BR for much of the year.

Me neither. CR isn't my taste. Also I have enough on site DVC points for us. We travel off peak times only so we stay wherever we want with my SSR points anyway. Monorail is a nice perk but not tempting enough to add on. We enjoy the resorts far more than the park days. Pool at CR is blah as well. They would need a super pool ( think BC) on the DVC side to make it remotely appealing to us. It is going to happen but you won't see me adding on, now Hawaii or another beach destination, I'm in.

Great thoughts HBC ! I agree with everything you've stated here. Where in upstate NY are you from? I'm from Saratoga Springs though we'll be moving to Southlake, Texas (Dallas/ Fort Worth area) in the fall.

I'm a big fan of the 14th floor at CR but not the wings so I doubt I'd ever buy DVC there.
