Rumor of monorail expansion

So I was sending time on a board, and there was a poster there who made a couple of posts in the past, so it's not someone who just started an account to make trouble.

Anyhow he said he was on a backstage tour and the Cast member who was doing the tour pointed out few places and said that is where the Monorail expansion to Animal Kingdom and Disney-MGM is going to take part.

The Cast member who was in charge of the tour said they have already started on the construction of the upgraded Systems. Wondering if anyone has heard anything of this?

With the rising cost of Gas it would problem save them some coin to start using the monorail more often!

The date this person was on the backstage tour (not the ride) was 3/16/06 and he is what he said the Cast Member said

" Disney IS expanding the monorail system to include MGM and Animal Kingdom AND he said that there would also be TWO NEW Monorail Resorts along the new route. He said that pilings are already being placed for the track supports."

Yeah, don't believe a word of it.

Disney's next transportation option won't be more monorail track, but rather will be light rail (i.e., trollies), if they ever move away from busses.

The Imagineer's Guide to the Magic Kingdom certainly does suggest that there were serious plans for expanding the monorail scheduled for announcement in October 2001 -- subtract a month and you do the math.

I remember the discussions even back then. It wasn't the monorail, specifically, for which there were plans for expansion, but rather just "transportation" in general. Some media outlets misinterpreted what rumors there were, and translated that into monorails, but as far as reliable sources ever knew, that was never part of the plan.

Here is a Quote from someone on the Canadian Community site...

the maintenance of the fleet and operating costs (gas prices skyrocketing as they are, plus staff) would mean that in the long run, the monorail would probably still be more cost effective. Plus its more environmentally friendly. And the monorails probably wouldn't need to be replaced as often.

which makes a lot of sence.

Except for the price of the monorail track itself.

When we bought into SSr they mentioned the possibility of linking it via monorail. I think we even had to sign off giving them permission to do it before we bought.

Actually I was just there and they are building more tracks for the monorail.
Which part of the World is getting the new monorail first?

I'm not sure as the monorail driver that we sat with wasn't sure either. He just knew it was being expanded.

The monorail pilots and bus drivers are notorious for making up stories like this for guests who are looking for some inside-information, when in reality, they typically learn of these things through the official announcements from Burbank, along with the rest of us. I'm sorry that you were a victim. :(
