RUMOR: Duffy leaving Epcot after the holidays

My kids didn't take to Duffy. They prefer classic Disney characters, Star Wars, and Princesses.

I never quite understood Duffy. Always thought he felt a little forced.

I agree. More than a little forced. At least with the standard characters they were in existence prior to being sold as plushies. Duffy is like a straight to DVD movie. Maybe in the future they can sell duffy's stuffed toy....

I'm sure it's only a matter of time seeing as how they already sell his mailman and some artistic cat he met on the street.

I thought Duffy was forced too, but DD3 was transfixed by the bedtime story on the resort tv, and then we ended up picking her up a Duffy PillowPet (sidestepping the Duffy that you buy the outfits for - didn't want to go down that rabbit hole, LOL), which is now a bedtime essential. Have been thinking of getting her the Duffy book. Maybe I should get it now before it becomes a rare collectors' item? :goodvibes

My kids 14 & 10 never took to Duffy. Even they felt he was "forced" onto Epcot and wasn't a "true" Disney character. While growing up they liked to meet and get photos with all the other characters but never Duffy. No loss for our family.

No! We love Duffy. Such a great character meet. We have the best pictures from there. So many nice memories of watching the show, meeting him, buying him, buying him clothes :)

I remember the first day we met him, my DD was so excited.

I really hope this isn't true. Epcot was almost on my no-need-to-visit list...Duffy will be the last straw!

I seriously hope this isn't true, or we too will probably completely by-pass Epcot in the future. He's my very favourite and I would be sad to see his only meet spot gone in favour of a character you can meet in other parks already.

I feel the same way I never even knew what a Duffy was until I was watching the tv at a resort. I thought the whole video was a great marketing ploy. Nothing against the bear tho.

My youngest loves Duffy and it's his sleeping companion every night. Since he fell in love with the character and I first knew him as My Disney Bear he never felt forced. Love the story of Disney Bear so it was an easy transition to like Duffy. Hope he doesn't to away completely for those that do love him. Just move to Japan for meet and greets.

What about the Duffy Bear on a stick that the kids can take to each country and have him stamped and color him? Its seriously their favorite thing about Epcot. Its our whole family's favorite thing! They color while DH and I split a beer from whatever country we are in :rotfl:! Then off to the next country! And the next beer!!

Wow. I hope this isn't true.... My family is filled with Duff lovers..

My son has out grown Duffy, but he LOVED Duffy. When he was younger he loved going to all of the different countries to see his different outfits. We have a great picture of him at the meet and greet. I have never understood why people hated him so much.

The Duffy Bear was first sold as "My First Disney Bear" and had no name other than that. My daughter was an infant when we bought it 14 years ago. It is still her favorite stuffed animal and he goes on all trips with her now at age 15.

She resents that he was renamed Duffy!
I'm a 17 year old guy about to say: same! I call mine Mickey Bear and I got him 4 years before his reintroduction into America. Over the past several years he's almost been a bit of consol for me just to give him a hug whenever I or my family has a bad day. I'm going to get ridiculed for this but I actually sleep with him every night (I realized I like holding on to stuff whenever I slept, always slept grasping my bedframe too). That was a fun time figuring out the teddy bear you sleep with every night is apparently worth tons of money on eBay and is super popular in Japan. I even brought mine down to Epcot with me just to have a picture of Duffy and Mickey Bear. Now I bring him down every trip and beat myself up whenever I forget to put him in my duffle bag on Epcot day. I just wanted to share
