Rumor Disney to sell FP for SWGE

Then with the announcement this morning, there's this: "For your vacation planning purposes, please be aware that Disney FASTPASS service, including access via Disney MaxPass, (at Disneyland park) and Disney FastPass+ service (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will not initially be offered at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. We will continually evaluate our operations and services in order to help provide a great guest experience."

Wondering what that "great guest experience" is going to be... 4 hour wait times? I seriously hope they are going to have MaxPass up for it by Sept, when we're going.

This was interesting. Actually I think it was a bold move on their part. People won't feel forced to buy MP, so they could make less money there. However, people often say the FP lines create longer standby lines. So in this way there is a sense of fairness. It will be interesting to see if they add FP once the other ride opens.

They aren’t true. @agamble maybe update the title in some way to reflect the rumor is unfounded/false/whatever ?
I don't know. I think this could still be a possibility after June 23 or after both rides open. We shall see what time brings. I learned from the other thread that in WDW people with Club level resorts can already buy extra FP reservations. I hope this doesn't come true though, but I wouldn't rule it out yet.

Since we are talking fastpass rumors in this thread, I read a whopper of a rumor recently. This particular individual has been quite accurate in the past about things at Disneyland so this info is concerning. I do not know for sure, but I believe this person is a cast member but that is just speculation on my part. Here is the rumor, by westsider:

Announcement today about SW:GE phased opening had a bunch of Testing CM's talking. The problems are real, the panic is real.

ROTR is months and months behind schedule, and it's not getting better. Earlier this year I talked about how ROTR was only running for 10 minutes at a time. It hasn't got much better. The wireless/trackless ride system and the multiple times the ride vehicles need to position themselves onto elevators or into show effects is the culprit. WDI was going to use the contractor who built Luigi's Roadsters for them for ROTR, but WDI got in a legal fight with that contractor and kicked them off the ROTR project back in 2016 and had to start over with a new contractor. ROTR is a mess and may not open until late summer or fall. When ROTR does open, it won't have Fastpass to start.

Millenium Falcon is doing much better than ROTR. DOSH has their inspection later this month, and it won't be a problem to pass. Falcon has four separate turntables and so four separate ride systems, so you'll almost always have at least one or two turntables running in the worst case. The decision to not offer Fastpass for Falcon at opening was a win for Operations, as no one in Ops thinks Fastpass is a good idea in general.

The big sit-down dinner theater restaurant got cut from the budget over a year ago by Chapek. It was supposed to be in the vacant plot now south of the Falcon building. It may be turned back on and built for a 2021 opening. The capacity of the small Cantina is just under 100 people, mostly standing. The bar only has a dozen stools and a few booths along the back. All shops are small and cramped. Most of the land will be filled with queue.

Parking CM's are also talking now that May 31 is the date. New parking structure and new entry lanes at Mickey & Friends won't open until late summer. Parking management is working with Lead teams to create parking nightmare strategy for May 31 and June. Lots of stadium parking is coming for CM's, but long string of Angels home games from 6/4 to 6/11 is going to make things suck for CM's and Guests. It's gonna be ugly, even with SW:GE reservations.

The story for the Florida version aint much better. The Florida version of Falcon has had more setbacks than the Disneyland version, and the problems for ROTR are duplicated on both coasts. The Florida version is also now planned to have a phased opening that goes through Christmas, 2019. Disneyland exec Kris Theiler and the SW:GE General Manager have gone to Florida, and they spent just as much time inspecting Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway as they spent in SW:GE. Their inspection of Railway confirms the plan to add that ride just north of Toontown next.

Things are gonna get real interesting this June

Wow. Thanks for that.

This article states that you will need no cost fast passes:

https://www.travelandleisure.com/trip-ideas/disney-vacations/how-to-get-star-wars-land-tickets

When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on May 31 at Disneyland and Aug. 29 at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, you won’t need to pay high prices for Star Wars Land tickets or buy anything except park admission to see Galaxy’s Edge in all its glory.

Still, while there is no additional fee required to enter or even attend Star Wars Land's big opening on both coasts, you will need a reservation time in certain cases. Finally seeing the spires of planet Batuu, visiting Oga’s Cantina, and experiencing the Millennium Falcon up close may just require a bit of extra planning.

Thanks for sharing. That’s what I was worried about, I have a feeling there is a big problem with ROTR. I think things promised for the last couple of years are going to be missing from the attraction because they just didn’t work.

I have no interest in SWL (although I think it will look amazing and will obviously be hugely popular) so have no concerns directly except for the flow on effect to how FPs are dealt with in other areas.

Disney selling FPs is just a reduction in value on the original park ticket, it's the reason we haven't gone to universal for the last several trips.

I wouldnt mind them doing paid events however like the have previously done at WDW where you had breakfast and an hour or 2 pre opening time in new fantasyland

I was expecting to find discussion about this here. In the March 5 WDW News Today video they suggest that Disney may begin selling FP for rides at GE....What do you guys think?

I would not be a fan of this. But I could see this as a great money maker for Disney.
...ITA - DEFINITELY not a fan...:badpc:
