rumor Disney Dining to go back to 180 ADR time frame

Actually back then you had a lot less people complaining and whining about not being able to eat where they wanted to.

Only because there were a lot less people who wished to dine at these SUPER popular places........

If you think about it, there really are not that many more park restaurants or character meals than there were YEARS and YEARS ago, but I'm pretty sure there are a lot more travellers and people who expect to eat out.........

And really, do you want to start EVERY DAY of your vacation in a long line to make ADR's???????

This argument just goes on and on....... But the fact remains that there are more and more people chasing the same number of ADR's. Changing the policy around only changes WHEN the problems arise. It NEVER solves it.......

I'd rather they didn't.
I mean 180 days out? Come on, you don't NEED your dinner plans 6 months in advance.
But if they do, your pretty much forced to because of obsessive compulsive planners who would take up all the ADR's for the most popular places, leaving the rest of us to follow suit if we want any shot at eating there.
If they do, I hope they DON'T release park hours till 3 months out.
because that way at least the obsessive's will make changes to their plans once the hours come out and open spots for the average person.

That and I hope they make the system so there's only limited ADR's available 180 days out, then open more at 90 days, more the week of.
and still make sure some spots are opened the day of.
That way people of all planning have a shot at eating at all resturants.
And those who obsess ADR's 180 day's out can fight with each other and not effect everyone elses plans.
But no matter what they do, leave it or change it...someone is going to complain it's not what they want. Leaving Disney in a new win situation,
Thus I say leave it, just annouce park hours the week of 100 days in advance so planners can try for ADR's
(again, with limited availablity and opening more gradually.)

Obsessive compulsive planner here

I can assure you we don't take up "all" the ADR's when we're there; in December we typically try for the first dinner seating at Chef Mickey's for a party of 12 (because it's one of the few places where you can seat 12 all together). It's difficult to do, and the ability to book it way out, because it's a BIG priority in terms of what we look forward to on our vacation, is important to me.

I've BTDT for most of the other restaurants, so it's completely unlikely that I will be booking Cinderella's Royal Table. Much more likely that I book Artist's Point or even my secret favorite Trails' End.

The obsessive compulsives, I will argue, are much more careful about making and keeping ADR's than many other people. I never, ever double book, and I have called many times to cancel. The castmembers are like, really, you're just calling to cancel? And I'm like, yep, it looks like we're going to go with counter service for that day and I just wanted to open it up for someone else.

If you don't know what park you're going to show up to until that day and there's no penalty for booking multiple overlapping ADR's, then I'd say it's that group doing that behavior 90 days out that has the potential to yuck it up for everyone.

I wish it would go back to 180days or even when you book your vacation you also book your meals if your on the dining plan. This will be my 3 time going around Christmas. The difference is this year we are skrimping and saveing to help send my single sister in law and here three kids also. This will be there first family vacation ever and the oldest child is 21. They might not ever be able to go back again. I asked all the kids to look thru the resturant choices and pick what there dreams where. Now the 21 year old girl want more than anything to feel like a princess and eat at the castle. She has some medical problems and has had a tough life, now she has moved in with her mom and brothers to help them all. One boy wants to go to the safari breakfeast because he loves animals and the other wants to be a chef so he wants to go to Chef Mickey's and my sister in law we want to take her to califonia grill just to be treated well and have a nice meal. We also want to go to some of the shows like the lua and hoop de doo. I want all there dreams to come true! Now we told them at Easter that they where going to go and we planned all of are trip already. Now I would have already called in are reservations in by now on the old 180 days plan. And probably would have gotten all our places maybe not all the times we wanted or days but would have gotten them. Now here is the problem. From what I have read because of the 90day situation I might not get the resturants at all! How do you tell these kids 3 months out from the trip of the life time that we can't make there dreams come true of eating in the castle,or eating at chef mickey's, or not allowing this single mother of three get a nice dinner for once in her life? I am scared about letting this family down. It is not just we won't get to eat this year where we want but it is breaking hearts of children!:sad1:

It's all a level of expectations, more than likely younger children are not even going to remember where they wanted to go if you make reservations 180 days out or they're going to change their mind several times by the time you go. Many many families are skimping even to be able to afford to go in there waiting at least until they are sure what discounts will be available. Most times these discounts are not available 180 days out, so you're saying the family's shouldn't get the same opportunities as a family that can afford to pay the full rate? These kids are probably less spoiled and have higher expectations than children that are pampered and get to pick where they want to go.

Not even sure what to say about this post. How did you turn this into "People with money have spoiled kids?" Sad really....

I don't know how this got to be about income or spoiled kids. I'm sure there are plenty of families who scrimp and save, research when deals are usually offered (can't we all pretty much predict free dining at this point?), and pay off the trip over a long period of time, and I know there are families who can well afford to travel who have other factors that lead them to book at the last minute. Besides, with the exception of a handful of character meals, dining at Disney is more about adults than kids.

The thing is, no matter how dining is handled, it will put some people at an advantage over others. 180 out rewards advance planners, especially DVC members who are used to booking well in advance. Same day favors morning people and those who aren't changing time zones to get to Disney, but people who don't make rope drop for whatever reason would be shut out of the very popular spots. There's no way to handle it that would truly be fair to all, so Disney has to choose how best to balance equality with other practical concerns (like not having long waits for tables in the absence of a reservations system or dealing with stampedes to booking kiosks under a same-day system at times of high demand).

I don't think there's a realistic way they could only take ADRs only on the day of. Offering some kind of advanced reservations helps assure the restaurants will be full, and it also helps create a demand where one may never have existed. You may not even think of having a meal at a certain restaurant until you hear that it's hard to get into. Then you obsess about it! I do think there's a bit of psychology working here.

Me? I'm going for a CRT breakfast at the 90-day mark. Wish me luck!

So people who pay full price for adr should be penalized because they did not get it free?
