I have a friend who visited this restaurant last week (Sept.15) and talked with a waitress there. She says lobster will be gone from the menu after next week. She believes this change is because of the dining plan. Obviously, this is just a rumor at this time.

If anyone notices any changes (confirmed) at this restaurant or anywhere else in the next few weeks, would you please post about it.

I hope not. I was planning on ordering that in Nov. But even if they take it off the menu we will still go. Teppanyaki is one of our favorites.

Maybe it's just me, but this dining thing doesn't seem like it was well thought out as far as those of us who pay OOP are concerned. I have a real issue with some of my favorite places downscaling their menus to avoid confrontation (no not included, but you may pay an upcharge) and appease those that feel they need to max out a dining plan to "pull one over" on Disney. Don't get me wrong, those that paid for or rec'd free dining with their package are entitled to enjoy what was offered, but to have restaurants eliminate things from the menu because too many people are complaining about upcharges in a system and or to avoid the confrontation of saying no ticks me off. Of course this may only be a rumor.

We ate here on Oct. 4th. Lobster is listed as an add-on item. Also, sushis are no longer part of appetizer.

Lately, my last couple trips to Tapenyaki I didn't feel like I was getting very good value for my money. They no longer serve the green salad with ginger dressing as part of the entree. CLP meal deal had additional restrictions. Japan is not including itself in the DDE plan.

We're seriously considering dropping Tapenyaki from our "must do" list.

I can confirm this statement, we ate at Teppanyaki on Oct 2nd, there was no steak and lobster combo, sushi was not allowed for your appetizer selection, and there was no chestnut cake or mousse on the dessert menu.

ding ding ding!

and we have a CM friend, who runs ones of the TS restaurants, who 100% agrees with you.

also - alot of food is being wasted from what DH and I have witnessed.

case in point - we were at Marrakesh for dinner one night in september (we were not on the dining plan)...big table full of people next to us...half the table leaves after they order dessert...the waitress comes back to deliver the dessert and is like "where is everyone?" a woman says "oh, they left". the waitress serves them their desserts and attempts to leave with the others...the woman says 'no! we'll take those" so the waitress puts them down. (it was dishes of ice cream)

and there they sit...going untouched, melting all over the place...totally wasted.

We have Teppananyaki for our CLP package. (dont have dd because we are AP with DDE). Can you still order the sushi if you pay out of pocket (I mean if it is not on the menu, do you think you can still ask for it?) The cali roll is a must for me on every wdw trip!

Yes you can pay out of pocket for it because it is still on the menu. :flower:

On another thread, people were complaining that there was gluttonous eating on the dining plan. Now people are complaining there is wasted food. So if you eat the dessert you are a glutton and if you don't you are wasting food. :confused3

Maybe they were trying to increase the CM's tip by ordering dessert. Maybe they just changed their mind.

In any event, how about the food wasting that goes on at the buffets such as Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace? It is a similar concept in that you pay a set price and can take as much food as you want on your plate. How many times have you filled your plate and then not eaten everything? Do you complain about buffets as well?

0 times.
I can't stand buffets and refuse to eat at them. :)

and about my comment.
it's one thing to order something and eat it...it's another thing to order, and NOT eat it. that's wasteful...especially when it's "free".

I guess it evens out in the end...

I'm with Patsal and Stinkerbelle. Disney does not seem to have thought this through very well. If the menu downgrading continues, we'll soon have a situation similar to the mass market cruise lines -- lots of food but most of it not very good.

That's a shame. If you go back to the early 80s, WDW food was almost inedible. Disney made great strides in the intervening years and dining is now one of our great pleasures at WDW.

I'm afraid we're seeing the pendulum swinging back the other way. I'm hopeful things improve with the end of free dining. We'll see.

I am upset about the menu downgrading. When I decided to purchase the package I first checked menus to make sure it was worth it to me... I feel like I was sold something and then given the bait and switch. When I purchased the package - chocolate slippers and sushi and lobster were all included. That is what I paid for....now that they have my money - they are saying "oh- even though that is what you bought - you can't have that now" Are there bait and switch laws in Florida? I liked the dining plan originally before the downgrading - but I think the "free dining" was a stupid idea. I think disney thought it would be a cheaper attraction for them then a rate discount. They probably thought $35 dollars a day is low cost to us but attractive to potential customers. But what happened in reality was people who would have never gone to the TS restaurants all packed in....They did not think about how it would pack the restaraunts. I can understand limiting menus for the free dining plan people, but that better not apply to those of us who made an information driven decision to purchase the package.

We were there on Oct 3...no lobster, no chestnut cake, and no sushi appetizer.

I am starting to be concerned about the downgrading of menues, too. We are going in December, and I am watching on DIS how more and more is changing on the menues.

That may be but that has nothing to do with the dining plan, you don't have to order dessert on the plan....

And same thing happens at buffets, you put something on the plate and maybe you get to it or maybe you don't....

I'm not trying to start a debate...but it's pretty common knowlege that those on the dining plan will order all 3 courses to get their "money's worth". (paid or not)

I remember the other dining plan venting and one poster there suggested that it wasn't prudent to let speculation become fact which is what is occuring here.

No one KNOWS for sure what caused this change. There is a suggestion or rumor that it was the dining plan, but it could as well be that recent increases in gas have caused it to be more difficult to get lobster fresh from airlines or trucks or whatever.

The point is that no one knows why this change was made. Anything in this thread is speculation.

I paid for the dining plan also. Are they going to downgrade menus for all the resturants?

If they do, I feel they should refund part of the fee I paid.
