I've heard that Disney World is looking at bringing Cars Land/Radiator Springs to Hollywood Studios. Has anyone heard this? Or is this one of those rumors that have been floating around for years?

Thanks!

It's been floating around for years, and floating around on this forum for years.

It was an early rumor for the DHS expansion.

One rumor is that Disney was seriously thinking about it but decided against it since the centerpiece (Radiator Springs Racers) wouldn't do well in the wet Florida weather.

Well, that's disappointing, but makes sense.

Thanks guys!
Don't fret, some sort of Pixar themed area with attractions from at least Toy Story still seem to be progressing slowly. Expect exciting things from them over the next several years!

Not sure the Florida weather argument stands up as far as Radiator Springs Racers, if it is the same ride system used on Test Track.

But test track majority of it is indoors while the majority of the racers is outdoors.

Test Track often closes due to inclement weather.

For the OP, the "best" rumors (and should be taken as such), is DHS will get several of the Pixar rides from Paris and maybe some of the smaller Cars rides from DCA. Everyone is hoping for an official announcement at D23 in August this year, including the unveiling of the new name for the park ("Disney Hollywood Studios" is being retired)

For Disney, there is a lot more marketing value in "new" Lands as opposed to just importing. Plus, DCA has finally come into it's own and become a national destination instead of where you go to get beer and wine when DL was too crowded.

But look at the opportunity Disney is missing during inclement weather. This could be an enhanced event with pelting rain beating in your face. They could charge a hard ticket fee during inclement weather!

Actually I'd say RSRs and Test Track are fairly similiar in length indoors v. Outdoors. Especially RSRs has some pretty slow dark ride scenes that lengthen time indoors. It's true that RSRs is more outdoors, but not by much.

The pin is where the ride building is. As you can see the proportions are pretty similiar, especially when considering the track is inflated in size because there are two cars side by side. Keep in mind that you really speed through the outdoors like TT.

Here's TT.

I don't know if this is really a strong objection to it. Especially because they could move a significant portion of RSRs indoors if necessary. I wouldn't be surprised if it was more of an OPs decision. Maintaining the diverse color schemes and rockwork in Florida where humidity and rain are a constant factor could be very expensive. Just look at what has happened to BTMRR in Disneyland Paris. Cars Land is immense, and it's probably easier to just maintain smaller rides.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if RSRs or some other E or D Ticket ended up in PixarLand. It just isn't going to be a full on Cars Land.

I don't think two rides with the same technology (and don't bring the omnimovers up, because that's a different case) would be a good idea within the same resort. If they want to use Pixar IP, I'm sure they can find a different one to make a brand new ride. If they don't want to waste Cars' popularity, what about the new Luigi's Tires ride they are building at DCA? Something along those lines.

Another interesting suggestion is to re-theme Tomorrowland Speedway into a Cars attraction and make it part of Fantasyland. Give something else to DHS. Otherwise, I don't see a Cars E ticket at WDW.

I'd like to have a proper new dark ride with a trackless system though. Disney has some experience with those, but they are nowhere to be seen in the US parks.

The trackless dark ride has been rumored for the GMR replacement when the five year sponsorship from TCM ends.

Well, let's hope so. I really think a well themed trackless ride like Ratatouille, Mystic Manor or Winnie the Pooh would benefit both WDW and DLR a lot. I've always assumed that Disney is probably trying to avoid comparisons with Universal since they have a few of those already.

I can definitely see a cars ride coming to wdw I just don't think it will be RSR because of the ride system and I think they want to keep that as a draw to DCA.

Agreed on the repetitive ride system, but you know how they are. Little Mermaid and TSMM proves they aren't too worried about draws to certain parks across the country.

I know but feel like RSR without the rest of the land just doesn't work. The ride is all part of that amazing facade of rock work. I don't know how RSR would be just by itself.

Basically it was a strong rumor for about 6 months - to the point that the DIS actually ANNOUNCED that Carsland was coming. (I bet Pete W. regrets that one!) That was in December of 2013. Since then, the rumor has fallen out of favor for a Star Wars land and an expansion of Pixar Place. The current rumor de jour is a Toy Story focused land - though I wish they would go with the idea of a true "Pixar Place" instead of all Toy Story.

Well Pete believed they saw mock ups for Florida carsland on a California backstage magic trip
