Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I read on the CSR board that rumor is NBA players might be staying there because of the convention space. If you look to see to book a room, the resort for the new tower is literally sold out.

I don’t know why this concept is mocked so much. People can’t seem to separate this line of thinking from the thought that Disney would keep the parks closed to keep unwashed masses off property when NBA is there, which is not what many people are speculating.
I think the issue is more that Disney would be hurting their paying customers to bring the NBA on property.

The tower has been blocked for weeks. The entire resort is unavailable now, as of last night.
Maybe because we're booked there from 8/2-8/15, but the CR availability has me scratching my head. Could be that they have capacity at all monorail resorts, and are looking to move everyone over to CR so that we can walk to MK, since the monorail is a logistical nightmare from a social distancing standpoint. Or, could be something else entirely.
From the early days of the NBA rumor, it has made complete sense. What doesn't, however, is closing all of WDW for the remainder of the season and playoffs. Games, at the earliest, starting mid-July and regular season until early August would put traditional playoffs until mid September. Then, what of the 2020-2021 season that would start (traditionally) soon after? Sports leagues have more to figure out than TWDC does in opening their city in a city, and I don't envy anyone involved.

This would chap my DW to no end. I may not be allowed to turn on ESPN ever again, let alone the NBA. We can always change our dates, but we are fortunate. Knowing that they would back out on their customers for an 8 week money grab would infuriate many for much longer.
Also, Disney is in pretty deep with UFC. Any ideas why they didn't offer a similar deal to Dana White and his crew? Seems the hotel, training, and fighting space are there just as easily (if not more so) than a 30 team league.

Thats why I want to know how they will spin this.

You have paying customers willing to come to the resorts and the parks and Disney is going to say No we prefer the NBA.

You have families who paid THOUSANDS for their trips. Their trips they can only take at that time and some whom can only take maybe for years and years. And disney is just going to cancel and say NOPE the NBA is here sorry.

Knowing Disney though they will add some more spin to make it look like its not JUST the NBA

Its going to be interesting.

Its easy to spin if none of the parks are opening. Disney is using the NBA to bring some income til they decide when to open. The NBA isn't necessarily delaying the opening.

I think many are getting frustrated cause they have reservations booked and Disney isn't saying anything. If that does happen with the NBA many will be really upset.

Those upset feelings would be valid IMO. Many people have scheduled and re-scheduled. Money always seems to be the bottom line in business but it's a bad look to jerk around loyal guests for sports.

I know it looks like that to some. With or without the NBA they probably have a plan to open the same date. All the NBA does is help them not have to rush to open before the date they have planned.

Could Coronado and contemporary be the only two to open along with DVC resorts? Kinda strange, but I think club level is probably on the back burner at least for now.

Do you mean 'same day' as in July when the games start? I definitely don't see why they can't open at the same time as long as people with CSR bookings can be moved without bumping anyone else out. It would be a REALLY bad look if moving people around led to forced cancellations because of the NBA.

Disney won't notice but I wouldn't go back again if we get cancelled for any other reason than public health. I have been wanting to try Universal anyway :moped:

Why is 1 tied with the other? Why is it NBA or guests? How do we know its not both? Why are we assuming?

They wouldn't be opening at the same day. They have a date in mind but with having the NBA deal they won't have to rush to open.

Its not one or the other. All the NBA does is help them financially so they don't need to rush to open the parks

In my mind, an arbitrary delay still comes at the high cost of upsetting loyal families who are faithfully keeping their reservations. It's different if Disney held out for public health reasons but that wouldn't won't hold water if they wait as long as late July to open in the event that Universal opens successfully.

Just looked and for many weeks in July and August wide open availability. Still nothing at CSR.... my guess is that is NBA bookings. It does make sense since it is a convention resort.

Rteetz’s sources said the NBA could delay opening. The discussion is based on those rumors, not just assumptions- at least for me.
I don't look at as much the NBA delaying the opening. I think with Universal opening so quick Disney is now thinking they have to open sooner then they planned or lose out on that money. If the NBA deal happens it would help offset some of those losses so they can stick with their planned opening. Instead of rushing to open they can continue their plan.

Who is Rteetz? New here lol. Disney literally operates as a family based fun park. They have no meaningful association to sports. The idea of delaying solely for the NBA feels so....not cool.
