Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Zoo Atlanta just announced that they are opening May 16th. It made me think of potential modifications for AK. I wonder if it would be easier for Disney Parks to continue to have table service but to eliminate indoor quick service for now. Zoo Atlanta has eliminated their indoor quick service and is doing outdoor carts only. I haven't seen anyone suggest that indoor quick service might be closed, but it would be harder to control crowds in an indoor quick service location than at a table service location.

These modifications look quite reasonable. They are requiring dated and timed admission ticket purchases, and they are allowing those who are Zoo Members (season passes) to book times at no additional charge.

Here is what is on the website:

We’re promoting wellness at Zoo Atlanta.
  • Guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks. All Zoo Atlanta team members will be wearing masks throughout your visit.
  • You’ll find hand-sanitizing stations throughout the Zoo for your convenience.
  • We are frequently cleaning and disinfecting touchpoints, restroom touchpoints and restrooms using a solution approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • All buildings (restrooms excepted), indoor venues and indoor experiences are temporarily closed, as are Splash Fountain, vending and souvenir machines, photo stands, statue photo-ops and water fountains. Zoo Atlanta provides a largely outdoor experience in a park environment.
  • Rides, playgrounds and Treetop Trail are temporarily closed.
  • Food and gifts will be sold from outdoor kiosks. We hope you’ll come back another time to enjoy the other amenities, which are closed for your safety.
  • We are promoting a one-way experience that reinforces social distancing guidelines at all locations where it is feasible.
  • Visuals at some animal habitats will suggest where guests should stand to watch the animals. Pathway guides will be on hand to assist guests and encourage social distancing.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I dont think I want to go wearing a mask and no character meet and greets for my kids. (Thevare young)
I have to wear one all day at work and it is no fun. This will be my first trip in 20 years and my kids first trip. I guess the more this drags out it looks like we won't be going.

If this is an extra special visit and you want to do and see everything...Summer 2020 is not the time, unfortunately. There is almost 100% certainty that when Disney opens it will be with several limitations and restrictions.

Personally, if it were me, I wouldn’t want my first trip in 20 years or my kids’ first trip to be what the Disney experience will be the first 2-6 months upon reopening. Most people that are welcoming of the partial experience are ones that have the ability to go multiple times a year

I've been an out of state AP holder for 4 years and my nephew's family is DVC. I go twice a year, once with them and once solo. For us, anything new is welcome even modified experiences. I myself wouldn't recommend you go this summer. It's unlikely Disney will be the experience you are hoping for. Too many unknowns and there will likely have to be modifications to many things.

Nah I think it’s probably a very popular opinion just not here where we have lots of people who visit multiple times a year and are way more into Disney parks (and are itching to get back) than your casual guest.

My guess is a lot of first timers, or once every decade or two kind of guests, quietly delay until things are normal-ish.

And what about people with quick service dining plans (in WDW) ? WDW is not just a day trip. Some of us will be there for weeks on a quick service dining plan. I don`t think I`d be happy to get my 3 meal/day from an outdoor kiosk. In Shanghai they could open quick service... actually quick service could be safer with disposable utensils. Also in TS your server would serve other tables too which could be bigger risk factor than pick up your own food, sit at a table faaaar from others and use disposable cutlery. In my opinion.

That's cool, I'd like to take the family to the NC Zoo. Being mainly outdoor (compared to even a theme park) I feel Zoos are nice transitions into "being open" and good test beds for getting people back into large gatherings.

Are they offering a discounted price? Just curious. Not sure it is really needed, but with some "experiences" closed, you are getting less bang for your buck.

I think if you are going for your "once in a lifetime" or "once every 3-4 years" trip, you shouldn't rush back to Disney until it is "normal".

If you are a AP holder, DVC owner and/or a huge "go every year" Disney fan, I think a lot of those people will be fine going to Disney with reduced experiences since they've done it all.

For me, I'm fine with reduced experiences, it just comes to money/value for me. I'll just wait until later if I am not going to get the "full" experience if I am paying the "full" price.

I still think WDW will do QS with CMs showing guests to tables once they have their food (for indoor QS dining), so they can control seating and keep parties spread out.

Several years ago I experienced this at Cosmic Ray's on a busy day.

No discounts. I think they are charging their regular prices. $24.99 adult, $18.99 child (3-11), and $22.99 for seniors. Military and children 2 and under get in free.

At this point, I am happy to pay full price. I know they need the money- zoos have really suffered. They have had most of the same expenses to take care of the animals, but they have had no income. I think might have gotten some grant money, but taking good care of those animals is so expensive.

And I am at a point where I will pay a hefty price just to go somewhere other than my neighborhood walking trail.
