Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Desantis said Phase Two was weeks away, not months, from the 5/4 Phase One starting date. It's all conjecture but I would guess Phase Two begins some time before Memorial Day as long as things don't turn south, which thus far they haven't.
What's "turning south"?

"As many Floridians wait for further guidance as to when Gov. Ron DeSantis will give the green light for phase two of his reopening plan to take effect, cases of coronavirus continue to rise.

As of early Wednesday afternoon, the Florida Department of Health reported 479 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 93 new deaths since Tuesday.

These new statistics bring the total cases of coronavirus reported in the state since March 1 to 42,402 and brings the total number of deaths related to the respiratory illness to 1,779." https://www.clickorlando.com/news/l...night-as-florida-awaits-phase-2-of-reopening/.

Crisis management 101 - end all superfluous activity and deal only with the matter at hand. Resume peripheral activity only once the full impact of the crisis is understood.
It’s about risk management.

And power washing TSL sidewalk 2 weeks ago was not superfluous?

They have gotten paid up to this point, but that is not guaranteed. There is a clause in the contract between the NBA and NBPA to stop paying the players in the event of a major disruption which includes a pandemic. I expect that the NBA will finish the season somewhere during the summer.
TIL about a "force majeure event clause" in the NBA CBA. I still think the NBA won't come to WDW, especially if the parks reopen. Anyway, back to masks vs no masks.

As much as I am cautious about things opening up...FL is testing a lot more people now (political opinion as to why removed), so their positive numbers are increasing but their testing rate has declined.

Also for FL numbers if an out of state person gets infected in FL those numbers do not count towards the sunshine states count and instead towards the state of residence of that person. Same for deaths. So remember that cell phone tracking of all those Spring Breakers returning to their East coast, South East and Midwest homes...where the infection rate spiked.

The data shows that most of the FL people seem to be quarantining properly even before DeSantis had recommended but if you bring back in influx of out of state guests in and out that will make the situation worse for the entire country.

That is why at this point I am all for opening WDW when they feel ok to but keep it only for locals for at least a month if not longer. That will give everyone time to look at more data without messing over any quarantine of the states East of the Mississippi (people most likely to go to WDW) Obviously DVC will throw a wrench in this plan.

I am listening to my local sports talk radio station here in Atlanta while “working “ from home. The update guy mentioned all 20 some MLS staying at Orlando playing games at WDW starting end of June is being proposed. Assuming the ESPN Sports Complex would be used for games and practice. Disney would probably want them to stay at a Disney hotel I would think. Where do you stick 20 soccer teams? Riviera, Caribbean Beach ?

"Space 220" ? Not being used anyway

Which I think could work in the beginning but my specific question is I bought Platinum APs for DH and I months and months ago in anticipation of our June trip which got pushed to December. Now we're scheduled for a kid-free trip in later Aug but our APs have never been activated so do I technically even HAVE a real ticket that I could register ahead of time to get a park date/time entry??

Most likely if you have your AP linked to MDE even if not actvated you'd be able to do reservations should they go that route (which all signs point to).

He did say though "no fans at the start"

But I do think we will see a phase 2 here in Florida by June 1st or very soon after that.
Duvall County mayor said similar things (ready for phase 2).
Not surprised at all about the fans part, because hours of being in the same seat apart from bathroom and beer breaks while cheering and yelling isn’t a good idea.
Then again, multiple FL politicians have said essentially that theme parks can be viewed as pockets of shops, restaurants, and outdoor concourses.

I'm assuming others have seen this article on what Six Flags is doing whenever they decide to open - something very similar to SD in that you have to pre-register for specific parks and specific time entry.

We are in a similar situation. We bought our Platinum out-of-state AP's for our June trip, planning to activate them on day 1. I don't know what they would do with those since they are not activated, but they did get us the ability to book fastpasses, so we have real tickets. It would be so disheartening and quite the kick from Disney if we were unable to use them this summer. There are supposed to be absolutely no blockout dates. We've had our resort reservation since January. It would be quite cruel for Disney to allow someone who bought a ticket at the last minute to go while our trip has been planned for so long. There has to be a way for them to fairly handle people who have had trips planned for months.

I really hope the "advanced purchase of a ticket and reservation" is not the case at Disney. Our ten-night resort reservation will just not work if we have to purchase individual tickets for individual days.

Universal is considering that, too, according to their survey they sent out earlier- and they are considering charging double the price of a normal ticket. Such a bummer if they were to do that.

in a different thread it was pointed out that we DO have real APs even though they're not activated and the ticket number on our orders that we used to link the tickets to MDE is what we would use as our "ticket numbers" if we had to pre-register for park entry..

BUT I'm not looking forward to purchasing more tickets for our Aug trip, even though that means our APs wouldnt be activated until our December trip....

You can book the AP rate, you can book FP with a voucher. It’s a real ticket, just hasn’t been used or activated yet. It shows in MDE as an AP. I haven’t activated either as our March trip was cancelled.voucher as well. I’m not worried about it at all.

Has anyone heard if resort CM schedules are also empty? Just wondering if we'll possibly get a resort only opening at first. #graspingatanything

I have about 20 tabs open for alternate plans that week but just can't get myself to do it. 😅

I’d do the same thing actually. All this talk about theme parks and really just want to know if the resorts will be open for my dates. I know most people want Star Wars and Mine Train, I want Trader Sams and pineapple cocktails. 😳

" no fans at the start"

So I guess "status quo" if you like the Knicks ? 😉

Knicks are a bad example, they fill up MSG because going to Knicks games (even though they’ve been terrible for the last 18 years) is an event. People go to say they went to see a Knicks game at MSG, not necessarily to cheer for them.

Baltimore Orioles, or Miami Dolphins/Jacksonville Jaguars would have been a better example.

Problem with opening resorts first would be holding thousands of people with nowhere to go other than DS, or stay at their resort. Imagine how crowded the pools would be with no parks open. Talk about a social distancing disaster
