Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I know June travellers want info from Disney, but I think the only thing they’ll be willing to say with certainty and commit to this far out (especially mid to late June reservations) is if they aren’t opening. So if you want a chance, you’ve got to keep riding the emotional roller coaster.

I totally agree. They only thing we know for sure is they are closed “indefinitely”. Which means for an unspecified period of time. Which could include June. If you aren’t happy with that answer I think it’s time to cancel.

Just finished listening to the Disunplugged podcast. Pete is still hearing that Disney is planning/trying for 6/1 opening. He mentioned some inside sources, and also the fact that Disney isn't allowing changes/extensions to the free dining offers that were offered to those with cancellations during the park closure (sorry, kind of murky on these details because that part doesn't affect me). Anyways, for those of us wanting a reason to have hope for June, we got some! Oh, and for anyone who wants to hear more mask discussion, there was plenty of that too!

There's just no way June 1 happens. Disney Springs, in very limited fashion, is not opening til May 20. Shanghai opened almost two months after their "Disney Springs opened" and several weeks after word of training/tests. We're already past this timeline for WDW. And by all accounts, Disney is going to take a very conservative approach to opening WDW.

All it takes is one disabled kid with COVID-19 to rapidly spread this through the parks. I don’t see how you can make exceptions. COVID-19 doesn’t discriminate.

I called Disney’s Disability Services yesterday and was told exemptions will be given to those with disabilities of all ages. Of course, that could be totally incorrect, but that’s what they are telling people right now. As much as people want to think this group of people shouldn’t come unless they can wear a mask, including the Podcast folks, the fact is that if Disney allows them to not wear a mask, they will be there.

Guys there is no way Disney forces people who cannot wear one to wear a mask, and not allow them to enter if they don’t. I will be absolutely shocked if there isn’t exceptions made and that’s if they even strongly enforce the mask rule.

I think the bigger concern will be the you can’t tell me what to do/I don’t like masks crowd and how they are handled.

I agree and I think those concerns are best discussed in the mask thread

We aren’t actively planning a trip. But I remember how horrible guests could be when I was working there. Man, some crazy, crazy stuff. It will be interesting (and sad) to hear the stories.

Comparing WDW and SDL is comparing apples to oranges. They are run completely differently. Yes, you could very well be right that they won’t be open on June 1st. But basing that claim because of how Shanghai has done their reopening isn’t exactly the strongest argument to make.

This is especially true because Disney said the exact same thing.

Not likely if ppl are adhering to social distancing. That could be true of one non disabled person walking around with his mask down eating a turkey leg too. It won’t be 100% safe.

The suspension of the character meet and greets is just the soul crusher for me and my family. I'm generally fine with most of the restrictions, but we pay a HUGE premium to get the Disney experience with characters and its just disappointing. Having a facial cover with Mary Poppins at over 6 ft away doesn't make the cut on the picture frame of life. :(

I feel like we need to ban the "M" word in this thread. Heh.

The fact remains, businesses (like Costco or Disney) will REQUIRE whatever they want to make their customers "FEEL" safe during this virus. For every customer that doesn't want to wear a mask, there is probably one that won't come there if masks AREN'T required. Whether it really works or not doesn't matter, it's the guest perception and comfort that matters.

We all know that things like the security measures at WDW aren't 100% effective (and can be argued if they are even needed), but they are there whether we like it or not.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I don't know that I believe that post. I've asked her for a screenshot and she hasn't shared. In looking at her prior posts, it looks like today was the first time she's posted since 2014. Seems a bit off. But again, maybe I'm wrong.

Things can be blocked out on a screenshot so not posting it because she doesn't want to divulge info seems shady. 🤷‍♀️ I disregarded it at that point.

Also getting people to wear them correctly. So many people don't cover their noses or "wear" them on their chins. My state requires masks and I see so many people wearing them incorrectly.

My suspicion is he/she is caught up with the TA Groups in June that we’ve heard anecdotal reports of cancellations coming in from today. As such she would have to tread very lightly and carefully, we were probably luck she shared her DP. There would be nothing in the email that would be of any help to anyone else.

I even told her to just black that out, and she hasn't posted anything since then. Shady for sure.
She's being intentionally vague because she has to be. 30 seconds of research on here allowed me to figure out she's in a position that she can't disclose more and I'll leave it at that. I 100% believe her. I don't, however, necessarly think that because her stay was cancelled that all stays will be.

If I had small children I would not be going anywhere near WDW. Especially with this latest complication that appears to be fatal to children. And I don’t care if it’s 1 chance in a zillion. No chance is worth taking with my kids health. I know people have money at stake with annual passes or other stuff. Sorry. No cash value on my kids safety. Grown ups can assume any risk they want. Kids have no say.

this is Such an insensitive comment. Here’s the deal. Anyone who is able to abide by the rules should otherwise that is just selfish. But there are people that can’t and people need to be sensitive to this. I feel like people expect Disney to put all these rules in place so no one gets COVID at Disney but the fact is if you go to Disney no matter what the rules are you have to be ok with the small chance you will get COVID because that is a risk. They can’t ever lower that risk to 0. If someone with a disability going is going to bother you that much and make you worry about getting COVID then it may be best to not go.

Just saw a story on a Target employee getting punched, a small brawl breaking out and ending with the employee having a broken arm because 2 unmasked people didn’t want to leave Target and refused to put masks on.

People can be so, so, stupid.

Not in the sense that it 100% makes sense to open the mostly retail component weeks before opening an amusement park, and again it 100% makes sense that re-opening a theme park with numerous fundamental changes takes weeks and months to prepare for/test/implement. Shanghai will absolutely be a model for other park openings. They'll keep the good and ditch/modify the bad as other parks open.

I think many businesses like Costco care about their employees and their customers. Wearing masks helps to protect both from asymptomatic spreaders.
