Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

That’s really easy to say when it’s other people who have to “not go” and not yourself. Yes, we can avoid the parks for awhile. But if this is the new normal, we can’t. We are DVC members. We also have a disabled child who may never be able to wear a mask.

Those who can’t wear masks due to age or disabilities won’t be required to.

There is a lot I don’t know. But one thing you can be certain of Disney will not make your child where a mask. Many people will not have to wear mask for different medical or emotional issues.

Can confirm. In January the construction in Epcot made it our least liked park. And we are in our 20's! Which I feel like is a big targeted age for that park. I wouldn't miss it in its current state.

We love Epcot, but during our January visit, we didn't close out late at whatever park had the latest hours like we normally would (in this trip it was Epcot's EMH). We were at DHS hanging out in Batuu and wanted to finish our trip on a high note. We felt fighting crowds along those walls wouldn't be a fun way to end our trip.

Hoping when WDW does reopen, they continue to move forward with those renovations, it's such a mess

I feel like if they aren’t capable of enforcing it at local stores (I live in NYS and they don‘t enforce it in any of the stores around me)...they aren’t going to enforce it at Disney.

Thanks everyone. I’m sure my reaction seems extreme - I have had some pretty horrible encounters with people in public over the actions of my disabled child. I honestly think I have PTSD from it. So this is where I’m coming from when I say I’m worried about how CMs or guests will treat us if he rips off his mask. People have treated our family horribly in the past.

That's awful, and sorry to read that. Your reaction isn't extreme -- people are pretty crappy sometimes.

I respect this, and can mostly get onboard with it. My concerns will mostly be about how will they react if a small child removes their face mask? What if they do it again five minutes later? Will we be escorted out of the park? I’m curious how strict it will be, and I will be watching closely.

This is how I look at whole mask thing. Let's say you are on your favorite attraction and the person behind you coughs on you. Would you feel better if they were wearing a mask or without one?

Beyond a fleeting thought that it's rude, I'd go on with my day and not think about it.

They will not have to wear a mask. This is how Costco does it.

Who knows. We have a family member with asthma, and that individual certainly cannot wear a mask when having an asthma attack. But perhaps that's a situation where you provide a medical note regarding the situation?

Just say you have an issue and you won’t have to wear a mask.

Eh, I guess, but then people who don't want to wear a mask will say that. If Disney makes mask mandatory there needs to be something more than "I can't." Otherwise just don't make them mandatory.

So on this issue, does anyone know how they are handling the mask requirement in Shanghai? I know masks are required, but are there exceptions?

Disney doesn’t even need to create extra work for themselves creating surveys. They can just release a statement a few stores are opening with mandatory face coverings. Can’t do the mask debate, but I think they almost have to do it out of the gate regardless of what each of us feel. We all have our opinions on the efficacy of masks but I really don’t think Disney is looking at it that way. It’s good PR and masks make some people feel safe.

Edit - I still don’t think they will mandate they are worn in the parks. It’s a logistical nightmare.

People will definitely lie to get out of wearing a mask. But I think they are opening themselves up to all kind legal problems trying to make someone wear a mask who says they have a medical issue.

That's easy - China would give them a yellow or red QR code. NO ONE in China wants those codes, thus everyone wears masks (unless...well, I won't go into details, here)...

I assume an official doctor's note would be fine. Might be info attached to MDE so the person wouldn't constantly be asked about it.

Remember no proof is needed for assistance card. I don’t see why a mask would be any different.

There is zero reason to waste resources opening up hotels and not parks. Barely anyone would go to Disney. People stay there for parks, conferences and the occasional resort only trip for a couple nights. The occasional resort only trip is not enough to justify opening the hotels with no parks.

I think opening the hotels without parks is a recipe for a lot of unhappy customers.

I'm sure locals would go there for the restaurants and or shopping for a "taste" of Disney without the parks.
