Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Today's schedule is out from the 10th through 16th. To my knowledge, no one has been called back.
Ah yeah my bad. 10th to 16th would be correct for this weeks schedule.

All the days just blur into one with this lockdown. Iv no idea of the day of week or date these days!

Still, another week goes by with no sign of movements at all make june 1st look less and less likely to me.

I read that the Shanghai Dosney resort requires a green QR code for entry, among other things. Will that work here in America? I know a lot of people worry about being tracked with that sort of thing. If we can't get QR tracking, will the be able to reopen?

While China can mandate it nationwide, it would have to be voluntary here. I still think some people would do it to gain access to the things they want to do - Disney included. But the bottom line is that testing would have to be ramped up and made widely accessible as (imho) a negative C19 test and/or positive antibody test would likely have to be part of the requirement for obtaining a green.

Or you bring a giant supply of them and have a fresh one for when you take it off.
My cousin who is high up at Seaworld told me they don’t even have a supply of masks for the employees yet much less getting enough for guests. She literally works in PR. They are in talks with Disney & Universal to be on the same page & open about the same time. She said a decision has not been made yet, but she doubts masks will be required at any of those 3.

Temp checks are maybe the biggest issue there for me. Spend several 1000 $ on a trip only to get to the gate and fail a temp check and get put on a 14 day quarantine? Insurance probably wont be covering that either.

Ok if you're feeling slightly unwell then you should be staying at the hotel anyway, but with most paying huge amounts of money for their trips few will be willing to skip trying to get into parks no matter how ill they feel.

I would definitely be taking a themometer with me to stop any surprises at the gates. lol But honestly, if your fever is over 100 degrees, you know you're sick- you feel it. And at that point, I'm good with Disney saying nope, not spreading your germs today. For those who say they run 100 degrees normally, I'm sorry, you're going to have a problem. In all honesty, I don't see temp checks happening- but it wouldn't stop me. None of us run 100 + when we aren't sick. We had a trip where one by one, we all got sick. Some of us missed most of the trip staying in the room, others just got caught at the end of the trip. Getting sick on vacation and missing out has always been a risk.

While I agree that you should stay in if you are sick so as to not spread any disease, you can run a fever with this virus and feel otherwise fine. Disney is going to get its share of people that are spiking a fever but feel fine and they will be irate when they are turned away at the gate.
Additionally, many carriers of this virus will not show ANY symptoms, not even a fever. In fact, recent spikes in testing has shown that the large majority of people who have contracted the virus have been entirely unaware as they had no symptoms at all. This, to me, means that temperature scans are simply theater.
The temperature scans by themselves would not be effective, but combined with other measures, they are helpful.

In an ideal world, we would not need the temp scan, but you hear about people that are sick with a fever and still go to the parks. Like the guy that was sick (and later died of COVID) and was at a conference, at WDW and at UO. Crazy. That guy should have stayed at home/the hotel.

The temperature scan is meant to prevent that small amount of symptomatic patients from entering.

Edit to add: I'm sure they will institute a reasonable procedure for the temperature scan. If you have a temperature over 100, they will probably set you aside to rerun the scan again. This will allow you to cool down, or have a hot flash subside, and then re-scan you.

This isn’t a Disney requirement it is a government one. Would not fly in the US.

Honestly, at that point, I would just rather not have the characters there after all. Think of all the little ones, especially those who this is their first visit. Or even worse, those who have been before or have watched videos on Youtube, and are expecting to be able to meet the characters. You're going to have to stop the kiddos from wanting to interact with the character, and potentially breaking your kids' hearts and spirit. The especially little ones aren't going to understand what's going on. I can see lots of tears and lots of stress on parents' parts.

Plus who is gonna pay a premium to see the characters from a distance?

Just get rid of the character meals until it can be the full experience.
Depends on the kid & the age. I would love this (right now). DS is 2 & likes to see them but doesn’t like when they touch him. He likes to wave at them etc, but that’s it. And since ppl won’t be able to take every possible pose with every possible combination of ppl in their party, it should also go a lot faster which is also a problem for us with DS b/c he’s not going to wait patiently in a restaurant for an hour.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the CMs that cannot, for some reason or another, put themselves at risk. Here, those employee of the district that did not feel comfortable working with the public were allowed to stay home, and they cut hours to make up for those employees. Tomorrow the hours are coming back, but the strict procedures they put in place (checkin from six feet back, hold up your pass and yell your name, they check you off the list...) will stay in place. I don’t know if the employees are coming back, or if they transferred employees from other areas. I know the employment office was not open, so they didn’t hire new folks.

What about someone who has walked a good distance in 90 degree heat....temp checks are going to cause a whole host of issues.

For the millionth time, this isn’t China. What ppl accept there will not be the same as here.

In our highly litigious society, I can't see disney reopening. People sue over the smallest things looking to get a payday. If the parks reopen and people get sick or die, Disney will need to have had solid precautions in place. I am looking to the Shanghai park to set the standard, and possibly Paris, before they reopen stateside.

Regarding character meets; 6 feet isn't really that far, as has been pointed out by many here. I could easily see a cute, themed barrier between the character and the guests. I'm thinking a very low "fence" of sorts--it could be a row of honey pots or beehives for Pooh, flowers woven through a picket fence for Snow White, fishing nets entangled with shells for Little Mermaid, etc. Something not too far off the ground--low and unobtrusive but just enough to create a barrier to stop the guest from approaching too close. They could easily have a conversation at this distance, and Disney photographers could figure out a way to get the best photos from this angle and it could still all work out very nicely.

I guess Disney’s options would be:

1) Take the risk and open despite the chance of lawsuits. If they do not have an outbreak and the mortality rate of this disease is al low as we now know it is then great. If they have a huge outbreak that results in deaths they could be sued Into obscurity and bankruptcy.

2) Stay closed and go bankrupt. At the same time their absence would decimate the central Florida economy. All of the hotels, restaurants, shops, food and liquor wholesalers, smaller entertainment venues etc. that surround WDW which rely on the tourism that WDW brings in, would fold in short order. The Florida economy would be damaged to degrees that no one could imagine. The unemployment roles would swell massively.
These closures could/would have a ripple effect throughout the rest of the country as the farmers and importers that supply the wholesalers who supply central Florida business would also see a drop in income and would make their ability buy things locally within their own states and towns. Travel agencies would close too.

I’d wager that they are going to take the risk of opening.
No, generally regulation, health and safety and labour laws are much stricter in the west and USA than in places like china.

If this is what china is doing to make people safe then I wouldn't be at all surprised if usa did at least the same, assuming they do consider it safe enough to open at all.

But then maybe capitalism will win after all and safety wont be so key in USA.

We will have to wait and see....

“He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither.” -Ben Franklin

I would add that if you give up your freedom for safety you will GET neither.

I just read a post on WDWMagic that said some CMs called back for Disney Springs for May 11th. OP wasn't sure if it was for cleaning or what.
Let the anticipating begin...I mean, continue...
🤷‍♀️

(ETA: sorry if posted in wrong thread, they all start to look the same anymore...)

Both the governor and the mayor have basically given the big theme parks a green light to do what they want....
Back to the theme parks, with both task forces having members of the parks it gives them an inside look and im sure special provisions are being done for them.
That's why we're all just waiting for Disney to come out and announce their guidelines, rumors are that they will announce this week
To be completely selfish, I hope we hear something prior to 6:00AM Thursday morning before my FP window opens. :rolleyes1
