Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Phase 3 of Florida’s plan lists “limited social distancing” for theme parks and sports venues. I’m not exactly sure what that means but I would assume closer than 6 feet.

I'm thinking it's more to do with crowd levels and not the 6ft rule.

But it is different. You are not thinking about this right.

You go to Disney world and you see the kids hugging and interacting with the characters all the time. They love that. There are smiles on their faces. And now they won't be able to do that anymore, perhaps never again. You won't even see the kids smile anymore because they will be masked up.

People are saying that we may never shake hands again. We are already getting into a world where everyone is connected with social media and video streaming, and that's all great. But it isn't a substitute for actual contact. If you are an employer, would you hire someone based on a video interview? I don't think I would. I would want to meet that person face to face.

Human contact is important. And that's going to be lost now even more now.

I would say it's you not thinking about it right. For starters, you're being a bit melodramatic.

My comment was referring to your claim about the mental toll social isolation takes in day to day life. Valid. However, my statement still stands - there's a HUGE difference between social isolation and social distancing. They are NOT the same thing.

Re: Disney, as you and many others have said, repeatedly, masks aren't going to last forever. They'll be here for a few months to a year. If that is going to somehow ruin Disney for you - don't go, it's as simple as that. You and your child will survive a year or two without Disney. In fact, you'll survive if you never go to Disney again.

Re: jobs. People have been hired for jobs based on video/not in person interviews for quite some time before COVID. And, social distancing doesn't mean you can't do an interview in person - it just means you stand 6' apart. Which already happens often anyways. Not a big change for many interviews. The only change is the lack of handshake at the end. And again, I don't think the handshake is gone forever, just temporarily.

I'm really not that afraid of the virus at all. It's a concern, sure. But I'm far more afraid of the irrational panic from people who are terrified of it. If someone is that terrified of the virus that they are worried about everyone around them not wearing a mask or gloves, they need to stay away from Disney World. They need to stay at home until there is a vaccine. Just because you are in a long term panic attack over the virus doesn't mean everyone else has to be.

People drive me crazy sometimes.

There is a balance between going to back to life as it was was and what we are doing now. Just cause you think masks shouldn't be mandatory at Disney doesn't mean they think that. Six Flags has talked about making it mandatory.

So the family wearing masks will get an extra set of FP’s. I’ll be mask free and getting a dozen sets of extra FP’s by refreshing.

Maybe they will drop FP and there will be a mask line and a non-mask line.

Maybe not but it highly encouraged. Not saying you but what gets me is how so many think social distancing is going to just disappear. Til there is a cure or vaccine its likely to stay. Shoulder to shoulder walking down Main St USA is a thing of the past.

I would love physical distancing to stay forever. I hate being on top of people in queues. I am all for mobile ordering and cashless transactions to be new norm.

This I can agree with and not because of just covid 19 but germs in general.

people. We can live in a world with that in place. Disney can function like that. People will have to learn to adapt.

Most guests would love Disney theme parks, resorts, and pools where they could be assured of six feet of distance between themselves and others. Same for sporting events and concerts. That would be easy to adapt to for most everyone. What people would have a very hard time adapting to would be the new prices they must pay at these venues in order for the businesses who run them to make money.

Can't imagine they are going to stay on. They will move. Imagine being on Thunder Mountain wearing a face mask. They will move all over the place. People will touch the masks to move them back in place, then touch the lap bar, spreading the virus.

The mask actually makes it MORE LIKELY the rider will touch their face during the ride. I'm not quite sure what the mask is supposed to protect while on the ride.

This won't last long. Everyone is going to realize how stupid this is real fast.

So my husband and I have been “socially distancing” at Disney since I bought him his first DL AP in 2001. He hates Disney crowds, so we never wait for parades or fireworks, and never get in a line more than 15 minutes ever. We always find quiet areas at DL to sit, eat, and people watch mainly (rely on FP’s for rides). We go to WDW every 2 years or so, and have a trip planned 7/7-14. He has to wear a mask at work and hates it. We don’t have an issue wearing masks at the airports and Disney transportation, but I would have an issue if they were required for guests at the parks (don’t see that happening, though). I always get the Disney heat rash a few days into the trip.

It will have to be. 6 foot social distancing isn't feasible inside a theme park all the time.

The thing that a lot of people seem to forget when debating Disney policy is they are a business that needs to attract people to make profit.

Bottom line is if they were to require masks to be worn, which they won't, they won't make any money. No one would vacation there.
