I currently have a dummy booking that was booked onboard but might expire before I can use it. I have friends going in January. Can they do a dummy booking for me while they are onboard? They also want one for themselves. Does it matter that I am platinum and they are silver? I can't remember if there are extra perks for being platinum.
Such a bummer these reservations expire after 24 months now! Was so nice back in the day...

Thanks
Jackie

Yes, they may book a room for you. But it would count as one of the two rooms they can book while onboard. And I believe the two rooms must be on the same cruise. Do you want to book the same future cruise as them?

No extra OBB perks based on Castaway Club level.

I was reading on mousesavers that currently you are able to split the 2 cabins to 2 separate cruises after you return and get the OBB benefits on both sailings. Not published, and could stop working at anytime. I have not tried it yet.

Well we might be taking the same cruise as them but they would be dummy bookings anyway so we can move them right? I have never actually taken the cruise I booked on board, just used it as a place holder. So I guess I'm asking if they book onboard for us, won't our names be on the res so I can tell my TA to move it to when we are ready? And if we can do that, does it HAVE to be the same cruise as them? I only ask because our daughter is too old to be taken out of school and they don't have to worry about that so we might not be able to go with them.

I wouldn't take mousesavers as gospel. They've been wrong before.

The restrictions on the onboard booking info sheet say:
"This offer is limited to two staterooms on one future cruise date (per household sailing). This offer is non-transferable, name changes to the reservation may be made so long as one adult on the original booking remains on the reservation."

Hmmm... Interesting. This is actually what I am looking to be able to do. Now I wonder if they wouldn't want to do that for themselves and not give one to us!

If you select a specific cruise to make a reservation for, it's not really a dummy booking. A placeholder has no date assigned to it.

As I quoted in the last reply, each household on a given cruise can book up to 2 rooms on one future cruise that will get the OBB perks. If one of the rooms moves to a different cruise, it's a cancellation and rebooking and the new reservation would have no perks.

But when you make a dummy booking, they assign you a date for it. I usually get a 3 day in Sept in a cat 11 so the deposit isn't too much. Then move it to whatever I want later. Maybe this has changed but I just did it in January.

Effective April 2015, there are no more dummy (fake date) bookings. You do a Placeholder reservation. No date selected and can be applied (and must be used) to a future date within 24 months.

Ahhh... So that explains why I was asked to move mine! I had no idea. So they can get us a Placeholder reservation and one for them (if they are willing to give up one of theirs) and then we can do what we want with it and they can do something different if needed?
I hope I have this right and can stop bothering you! I really appreciate your help! It's hard to keep up with all this.

Or does the placeholder have to be in their name?

AFAIK, they can book two placeholders, but it must be on the same future cruise, if you want the OBB perks to apply to both reservations.

Once you separate them (move one to a different cruise), only the reservation that remains with the original household (on the original cruise) will get the perks.

I have a question about this thread. If a friend books a placeholder for themselves and us on the same cruise, does she retain control over it? Like when the prices are released (for fall 2017), does she have to call and book both or can I book my own and move the obb benefits over to the new reservation?

Does that make sense? Lol

As long as both reservations are still on the same future cruise, the OBB perks will still be applied to both reservations. As to who actually has to designate what date that cruise is, I'm not sure. If the two placeholders are switched to 2 different future cruises, only the cruise that the person who actually made the placeholder reservations take will get the OBB perks.

Wish I knew about this during my September 2015 cruise. I would've taken advantage of it. I wrote to dcl after hearing about it after I returned home hoping for a grace period....unfortunately they told me "too bad"

In their defense, that information was readily available at the future cruise booking desk (even if there is no agent working the flyers are there). Not sure if this happens on every sailing, but we also got the OBB flyer left one night with our navigator.

Anyone know how much deposit they require for a placeholder reservation? Since we always do two connecting rooms on a cruise I assume we'd have to do two placeholders. Thanks :)
