I'm afraid that I'm going to ruin the surprise for myself by doing so much research for our WDW trip! :(

Should I stop reading about the rides and the park 'secrets', and just focus on where to go and when?

I read and I still read everything I can find about the World. It did not ruin th esurprises at all. The DH and the kids loved all the tidbits and it was fun looking for all the sercrets. Don't worry, there is so much to see and do. Have a great trip!

Keep reading! For me it is a lot of fun and besides you cannot actually experience Disney by reading a guide.

It really depends on your personality. The bottom line is, however, to have a basic plan - being a 'free spirit' at Disney is a recipe for disaster.

The more you read the more you realize how wonderful Disney really is. You'll find out that things go much deeper then what is on the surface and It makes you want to dig even deeper. That is when you become a disneyholic and start making plans for your next trip as soon as your trip is over.

OK, so I keep hearing about all these "Hidden Mickeys" and I've never found ONE (LOL!). I get so excited every time I get in the parks that I forget to look.

I think research can help you enjoy your trip more. I never would have learned about Boma's @ AKL if I hadn't found this board. We visited in Feb. and again last weekend, so you can never learn too much!

Keep up the research.

IMO I am reading it all and joting down a few notes but i am not planning ever moment. I am using it for tips and some key ideas but i am not going fanatic about "The Plan". I just want to go with the flow down there but have a few inside tips ready to use.

Keep reading.. I read everything I could find, and I was still amazed at everything I saw, The funny thing is I got there and for the first 3 days I had major Brain Block, Everything I had read about I forgot, Places to eat, Menus..
I read all about the ride details, and on most of the rides I was totoally shocked..Plus if you left you couldnt read all our witty comments about Disney :)

Don't read everything or I think you will spoil a few surprises for yourself - I think I did that to myself once. Felt like I'd already been on the trip once I was actually there.

You can read and read like we did before we went. Read all the hints and no matter how much you read either here or with the guides, nothing will compare to the magic once you get there and you finally walk down main street usa. You may not get to do everything like we didnt' get to or you may get to do everything you think you can, but once you get that magic....It is truly the best.

Without reading DIS you miss soooooo much!

I couldnt believe how little some people know about Disney....I guess I take my knowledge for granted now. Obviously I still have much to learn. I found it suprising on my last trip how people dont know about fastpast...I lost count the amount of people that pushed their way to the front of the entrance queue because they thought they could enter early (they thought MK was open at 8.00 for resort guests EVERY day!....If only!!!).

What Im really saying is that without reading these boards my holiday wouldnt be as much fun.::MinnieMo

IMO planning is essential to make the most of your holiday, I planned extensively for our first trip over Easter and thought all the planning was definatley worth it.

HOWEVER I wish I had NOT read as much as I did about the rides. The unexpected becomes the expected when you're waiting for it. I found that knowing too much about some rides took something away from the first experience, it did however have the benefit of seeing the surprise on the childrens faces.

So my advice would be to read as much about Disney as possible with the exception of the attractions for which only read brief discriptions if possible. If you can obtain guide maps of the parks before you go, I believe there is sufficient information on these to plan which rides will suit you most without ruining the surprise.

Whatever you do I'm sure you'll have wonderfull holiday.

I agree with Daniel&family. The first time we went (it was in June, 2000), I had done extensive planning and we saved a lot of time waiting in line and missed a lot of crowds. Our neighbors went the following year, did not plan, and had an awful time and will probably never go back. I feel reeeeeally sad for them. As far as the rides go, I needed to know what to expect 'cause of the girls, but kept my DH in the dark...I enjoyed his reactions!
