Well were big Cherry and white fans (Wigan Warriors) in this house and don't know what to do now the season has come to an end. Were not in the play offs so were now waiting for the tri nations. Anyone else missing the Rugby?

Our Season won't end until Sunday at the earliest. Being a Batley supporter I am not used to us beating decent teams, like Leigh last weekend. Expected to go down a deivision this year and we end up in playoffs.
AndRu. I used to play Union, its the worst game on earth, try watching some decent RL games you will see the light. :rotfl2:

I'm originally from whitehaven, unfortunately we're not in the super league, keep knocking on the door thought! (Word on the street was last season all the old amateurs were worried they'd lose their positions if the club had to buy in some real players for super league!!)

Much more exciting watching league than union, although the players aren't as pretty!

Er ... "worst game on earth?", RL is only played in a 100 mile strip of the country from Blackpool to Hull via Ilkley Moor (bar tat ecky thump). RL is 13 blokes all of the same height & weight whose sole aim is to run into an opponent whilst carrying the ball 6 times in a row. It's just a game of British Bulldog with a ball.

Union, on the other hand, is a beautiful hame played the world over from England, to the Americas, to the Pacific Islands - it truly is a sport with global appeal. Why? Because it's a wonderful game of skill, speed and power.

It still amazes me that Sky pay to keep league going, I reckon their angling programmes get a bigger share of the audience!

Ok I will not convince you, your sold on RU.
I went to Twickenham about 5 years a go to watch England v S Africa, My Brother organised the day to impress one of the bosses from NTL who was from S Africa. cost £500 each, food, drink meet a player etc. I fell asleep for about 10 mins thru second half. I just can't get into it at all.

RL Is a very fast and exciting game :) I was brought up on union and don't mind watching that either :) But where we live its all League so thats what i follow. My DH and FIL have alway followed RL, but DH did used to play RU and my dad played RU for the Army. Still prefer RL :teeth:

Growing up in Leicester, the union is the main sport - at least the Tigers are a successful team!. If only City and Tigers hadn't been so blinkered on using the same stadium, both would've benefitted from the use of a single stadium. :sigh:

Anyone who has been to the Welford Road ground and felt the atmosphere would never want to go and watch Rugby at the Walker's Stadium (crisp bowl) :)

Having played and watched Rugby Union for years I would say that it is much more skillfull game then League.
But, you can get really boring games in both camps.
Although I enjoy watching League, it does frustrate me. It has all the set piece and open play skills that make Union such a good game taken away - proper scrums, lineouts, rucks, mauls, back play ....

RU is known as Kick and Clap in our family as thats all that ever happens

Shellbells DH here....

RU is also known as Rugby Yawnian.

and to quote a famous former Australian Rugby Captain - Laurie Daley:

(You'll have to fill in the blank as it gets a bit naughty)
:teeth:

Rugby League is a simple game played by simple people.
Rugby Union is a complex game played by w*****s.

Mind of a typical league player ...

Got ball.
Run.
See opponent.
Decision time - try and get past opponent / pass the ball / kick it
Actual choice made = run into opponent and hit the floor whilst trying to shove the ball between legs.
Next player gets the ball, same choices, same decision. Run into nearest opponent and start again.

League is a minority sport played (for the most part) in 2 northern counties whereas Union is loved globally by millions. Just in the numbers of people watching and playing Union in this the UK alone and with all the money that comes into the sport is not something to be "yawned" at. Take Sky out of the RL equation and league would cease to exist...

Ok you all like union better. If you don't like league don't reply to the thread!
