My rug in my family room has quite a few stains on it. To have it cleaned would be $250.00. To buy the Bissell rug cleaning machine would be $99.00. It looks like it got good reviews on two different sites. Has anyone used this product before? Will it get out my stains. My stains are food spilled. I've tried to get them out with different solutions and nothing has worked. Just wondering if spending $99.00 would cure this problem. If so cheap solution, if not waste of $99.00.

Thanks.

I had one at one time and it worked well

Another alternative is renting a machine. Many supermarkets and even discount stores near me rent them. If you feel you will continue to make use of the Bissell, then that will be cheaper in the long run than renting.

It might be more than you want to pay but I just ordered the Bissell Revolution 2x cleaner and OMG, my carpets are amazing. It’s $199 and by ordering it through Bissell, I got an extra 3 year warranty and 4 pymts of $50 (free shipping too). I did a LOT of research and it’s one of the highest recommended cleaners ever of theirs. People said that it cleaned even better than a professional one that they rented. My house is 10 years old and in that time, I’ve had senior cats and now a senior dog that either 1) can’t hold their bladder very long or 2) get sick from eating whatever in the litter box or something. I’ve had stains and smells in the carpet for years that I’ve tried everything to get out (renting the Rug Doctor at the stores, buying the strongest cleaners on the market, etc) nope, never worked. I broke down since my sister is coming in 3 weeks for our Disney trip and I needed to try something so I won’t be embarrassed. Well, one pass on it and the stains are gone!! Urine smells are completely gone, any dark stains are gone, carpet is fluffed and looks brand new. That would be my recommendation. Lower priced ones aren’t your strongest for cleaning and don’t last very long, I’ve found with m y experience.

If you can't get the stains out by hand, the rug cleaner won't either. Once stains are dried and set in (especially if you've already applied cleaners) they are almost impossible to remove.

I have a Hoover SpinScrub and it works okay for removing dirt from high traffic areas and immediate spills, but the issue with household rug cleaners is they don't use hot enough water and they don't have enough power to suction like commercial rug cleaners can. Rug Doctor's aren't much better. Personally I'd have a professional do it. Household rug cleaners work fine like I said for normal upkeep (like every few months) but they by no means are miracle workers. Another issue is that a lot of the carpet shampoos actually leave a residue on your carpet which attracts more dirt so you may find they get dirtier faster. We plan to build a house soon and I plan to use water only for cleaning the carpets.

In my experience, with a $100 rug cleaner, I'd get one, maybe two uses out of it before it didn't work anymore. There are lots of things I'll do myself, but carpet cleaning is one thing I leave to the professionals.

As having a carpet cleaning company , it all comes down to the suction and extremely hot water. Remember the issue actually goes into your pad. Many times the stains return as it is still in the pad. We do all sorts of things for carpets. I am trying to figure out why you cost seems so high. Do you have red stains in your carpet? How big is this room? So many factors for the price.

What is your carpet type? Do you know? Sometimes what look like stains could also just be wear in the carpet. How old is your carpet? Can you load a picture? I can't tell you what to do. But it is back breaking work and sometimes it worth having the pros to take care of it.

I bought the Bissell Revolution 2x cleaner last week. I haven't used it yet but plan on doing the carpets before Thanksgiving. I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. Price was 229.00 minus 20% coupon. Final price was 196 with tax. I usually rented a rug doctor machime. But on a whime I decided to buy this machine after reading reviews. I can't wait to try it out.

You're gonna love it. I am amazed at what mine look like now.

I have the Bissel spot bot and it came with the Oxyboost and cleaner. Instead of buying more of the Oxyboost, I just use Hydrogen Peroxide and mix with the cleaner and it works great. Much cheaper than buying the Oxyboost product.

Never thought of that. I have the Spot Bot too for my critters' little (ok BIG) accidents and that's a great idea :flower1:

If you are going to buy, spend a little extra money and get a machine that also heats the water. My parents spent a little extra on their Bissell and it is still running strong after many years of use and they've only brought it into the shop once. It has paid for itself many, many times over.

Second, I would never rent a rug doctor. I've heard of people using them after sewer back-ups. That is just highly unsanitary.

The room is my family room. It is 20 x 22. The rug has a few stains in it due to people spilling. I don't let people wear shoes in my house so its really not that dirty just a couple of stains. I don't care if the stains come back if I can just clean it again. I am just trying to buy some time until I buy a new rug for a few years when my youngest child is in college and it won't be a continuous hangout. I'll miss the kids over all the time, just not the spillage!

I am soooo glad that I bought the Bissell machine. I figured I might as well give it a try. There was a cartwheel offer on it so I got it for $80.00. What a bargain. I cleaned all of the stains out of the rug. It is amazing. there are stains that have been on my rug for years and I have tried every cleaner and trick in the book to no avail. With the machine they all came out. It is a big room so I only cleaned the stained spots so far. it does take a while to clean it. I will do a full cleaning next week a couple of days before Thanksgiving. I highly recommend this machine.

Wow! That was a good deal.

I finally had the time on Friday to clean my whole downstairs. My carpet looks amazing! Very happy with my recent purchase and would recommend to anyone.

I have the Bissell that heats the water. It does a beautiful job. My inlaws are always amazed at how long our carpets have lasted and they still look almost new once they're cleaned. It also has a rinse-only setting which I absolutely use every time, sometimes even rinse twice. As a pp mentioned, if it's not rinsed well, it attracts more dirt and the carpets will appear dull in a short time. It's a bit of work but I'd rather do that than have to replace carpets prematurely due to lack of maintenance.
I bought at Kohls with a 30% off coupon and prob used some kohls cash & free shipping. I never pay full price.

I wanted to add that in 2014 I was paying down cc debt and didn't want to spend a lot on a Mother's Day gift for my mom but didn't want to give her a cheapy gift either. So I offered to clean her carpets with my machine. I already had the soap so it didn't cost me much and she was thrilled to have it done for her.

I hate to say but i have bought two and my mom had one and they all three lasted less than two years with irregular use. I got the 199 model.

We have a Hoover cleaner and it works great. I got it at Kohls on Black Friday about 3 or 4 years ago. We haven't had our carpets professionally cleaned since. With pets our get pretty nasty. My husband does our whole house with it about 3 times a year and the carpets look great.
