The maitrde at the derby, believe his name is Paul,is a very rude old man that should retire!

Sorry to hear that, I actually know who you mean and have never had an issue with him when we have eaten there, maybe he was having a bad day????

It's kind of difficult to judge without specifics. How was he rude to you? Did he have a condesending tone? Did he not seat you where you wanted to be seated? Did he spit into your soup? Step on your toes? Calling for someone to be fired just for what you perceive as rudeness is going pretty far out on a limb without cause for that drastic action.

never sais he should be fired.said he should retire.get over yourself

Either way, it would be nice to know why you think he was rude? What happened?

I know exactly who Paul is at the Brown Derby and he is a fine gentlemen. What did he do to upset you so much?

I know who you mean and he's a lovely older gentleman. Personally I hope he doesn't retire any time soon.....DH and I always look forward to seeing him when we go.

Will be interesting to hear what kind of problem you had with him.

As a former Brown Derby CM I feel I should put in my two cents. When I worked there Paul was practically an establishment in himself. He was best known as the gentleman who wore a brown derby, though not all the time. I also knew him as a man who would get into character so to speak.

You have to rememeber that the Brown Derby at MGM is modeled after the original that had it's heyday back in the 40's. Back then the service and attitude you got was much more formal than you see in sit down restaurants today. So by todays standards it would seem a bit standoffish and rude. But it was the norm back then. He wasn't trying to offend or be rude, he was simply playing a part like ALL CM's at Disney play a part.

I should also add he was one of the sweetest coworkers that I had at the time and I miss working with him. It will be a sad day for Disney and The Derby when he decides to retire.

Thankyou for sharing this....good point about the vintage ambiance at the Brown Derby..I did wonder if that was what the OP was put off with. I doubt it though as his second comment to another poster on this thread seemed rude and childish. I have a feeling the OP had this attitude at the restaurant and was treated accordingly. LOL :rolleyes1

As an outsider reading the whole thread, sometimes these boards are harsh. We all need to remember everyone is entitled to their opinion and sometimes we need to just let people vent. Over the 22 trips we have had no every cast member has been warm and cheery. Sometimes situations and personalities do not blend...the same that happens on these boards but everyone should have an opportunity to use them. I was fired at last week becasue the person after me read my post wrong....it hurt because everyone kept going off the second post and not mine. This is a place to vent among community, gather ideas and be apart of the Disney family. Embrace.

I'm all for venting - thinks it's healthy!:thumbsup2 Just think everyone was wondering what the problem was. I'm sorry - but you make a statement like the OP did, think you should back it up with a reason - no?

I agree!!! I wanted to say just what Zeebs said when I read this thread yesterday. If you are going to comment about someone being rude then follow it up with some substantiated evidence. You don't just make a comment and then leave the thread.

It'll be easier for me to sympathize with the OP if h/she had provided more details.
