rude or not?

So here's the kicker!!

I agree, it's not rude to use both washers at the same time. My boyfriend was annoyed (he's so impatient), I told him he was silly and then I asked on here and I showed him that indeed, I was right, he is silly.:rotfl: (he wasn't really mad, just a moment in time today)

But......... it turns out that the person who was using both washers and dryers at the same time was someone who USED to live here!!! She moved out almost a year ago, but kept the outside door key and still comes here to do her laundry instead of a laundry-mat! Isn't that crazy???? I just looked at her when she was in the basement telling me this....

In this situation, I'm pretty annoyed!!:rotfl:

Okay this IS rude and probably trespassing/illegal too!

Oh, wow. That is rude! I'd be awfully tempted to make sure her laundry wandered off somewhere if she left it unattended. I wouldn't do it, but I'd really want to. I would report her to the landlord.

She seems to think because she lived at this building for a long time before she moved that she owns it. She was like that when she lived here. She says the landlord knows she is doing this, but that's most likely a lie. I won't say anything to him though, I don't care enough to bother with this! She's just got a pair of you know whats!!:rotfl:

If you spend any time in the building you may want to re-think your I don't want to get involved attitude. That is a serious security breach. The door locks to that outside entrance should be changed immediately. Who else has kept a key and has access? You may trust her but how about who else she lets come in? How do you know all she is doing is laundry? I think the rest of the people who live there especially single women would like to know outside people have access to what they thought was a reasonably secure area, especially at night.

that's a tough one. I guess it depends on what's being washed. If all the loads were jam packed full than not rude, but if she could have combined her loads and left a free washer then it was rude.

I mean technically it is first come first served...but I try to think of others. When I was in college it was near impossible to get laundry done in my dorm. I would wash absolutely everything together since they were huge washers/dryers. Then I would watch other people take up like three washers putting a handful of underwear in one, 4 shirts in another, and like 3 towels in another. I thought that was rude.

Sorry, but I think you are wrong. You may be ok with your white clothing getting all dingy from being washed with your blue jeans but most people I know would not be and it is not being in any way rude to properly wash clothing. There were times when I was in college that it was hard to get a machine but I also learned quickly to do laundry at off hours-like on a Wednesday night, not on a weekend.

My DD's school has $1 Tuesdays! for this very reason, trying to get the kids to do laundry not on the weekends. My DD is a night owl so she does hers late at night. One time she got stuck and had to do it early and she was amazed that all the washers were taken she had never seen that late at night.

You had no way of knowing that someone else would be wanting to use the other machine. I would have used both machines as well.

Not rude but why not look for a pair of reconditioned appliances? My husband and I bought a pair for $100 and used them for 22 years. We figured each trip to the laundramat cost us $15 so we paid for the appliances pretty fast.

Or it might need a good dose of bleach to sanitize her nasty stuff. No I would never do that - but it's fun to imagine doing it.

I agree if you have room, but most apartment dwellers just don't have any space. The w/d I have is portable and meant to be hooked up in the kitchen. Although I do have a space for it so I don't have to do that. If I didn't have room in the guest room it would have to sit in the middle of my tiny living room.

But it does make my closet have one 15" rod. I have virtually no storage. One closet in my bedroom and that tiny rod in the other room. No coat closet, pantry, outdoor storage, etc. City living can be pretty spartan.
