Only they will keep knocking, and knocking, and knocking.... People have described extremely persistent (and at times rude) CM's who are intent on harassing you to get you to vacate the room or do a room check.

Not so simple is it?

Cup of water thrown at them through the crack in the door....like you would do to a cat with a squirt bottle :)

With all the threads/posts regarding various intrusions at Disney resorts, is there any indication that Disney is listening or cares? I know they don't have to care since the resorts are so full, but are they blind to the fact that they're ticking off a lot of loyal customers? Just curious...For us it won't be a matter of onsite vs. offsite--we'll stop visiting WDW if these intrusions persist.

Keep in mind for many of the housekeepers English is not their first language and they may not read English well. I have read on these forums of many people reporting leaving a tip in an envelope addressed to "Mousekeeping" rather than housekeeping, and the housekeeper did not take it, saying she did not realize it was for her. So I guess it is possible they would not be able to read a note you leave on your door.

The best thing to do is to plan not to sleep past 8-830 on your last day

They're not going to storm in and start cleaning while you are packing up, but I wouldn't plan on sleeping until 10 am either

I know in many resort areas, Orlando included, that housekeepers are unionized. I would suspect most Disney ones are as well. And if that is the case, that would tie Disney's hands as far as what housekeepers are paid, the hours they work, staffing, quotas, etc. At least based on their current contract.

I get that the housekeepers have to get to turning over rooms as quickly as possible, but no one can deny that a person has a right to be in their room until 11am (or the stated/agreed upon check-out time if doing late check-out). In the past, I would say the housekeepers need better training and talks from management to not disturb guests with the sign out. But in this day of room checks at WDW, I suppose the housekeeper is well within his or her right to knock, even if the sign is out. It can easily be passed off as a room check - be it for security, or checking to see if the guest is gone!

For $500-1000/night, it's sad that you wouldn't plan on sleeping in on your own terms.

What is sad is getting oneself all worked up about it and still getting woken up at 830 when you wanted to sleep later.

Nothing will change on this at Disney, they will keep doing if it suits their purposes. Same as the security checks

Sorry but all of these suggestions are utter insanity. It is not the guest's job to make sure to explain every detail of our vacation to make someone else feel better or figure out how to work.
The room occupied sign means just that. I paid for a room for a defined period of time, end of story. I am not putting additional crazy person signs up to explain myself or my actions. The idea of even doing that is nuts. And if there just so happens to be a problem, then I will take it up with management.

And from the sounds of it any homemade notes will be ignored anyway.

And anyone who thinks putting a homemade note up or even the Room Occupied sign up will keep housekeeping from knocking is fooling themselves. I'm not a fan of this policy, but I'm also a big believer in dealing with what is, not with what I wished things would be. The sign is only to alert that there is a guest in the room, period. Anyone treating it as a Do not Disturb sign is not doing themselves any favors. Reports are someone will knock, and will keep knocking until you answer. You can either move off site, spend your time fighting with or trying to ignore whoever is knocking, or understand Disney really means it when they say they will enter your room, even with the sign up.

Probably all true. And, yes, I agree that I am little crazy! :p Kudos to you for noticing! LOL! :teeth:
I do live in my own little bubble where, although I am aware that the worst may happen, I still try to do whatever I can to help for the best.

I am just hoping that if housekeeping staff were wondering when we were leaving (and yes I would let them know the day before, as well) and came by early, they MIGHT NOT knock if they see the note. They may knock anyway, but perhaps some kind people would pass me by and come back later. If not, no harm done by leaving a note. I completely realize that it might not help, but I will feel that i did what I could to make my life, and perhaps theirs, a little easier. I know that they can enter my room with the Room Occupied sign up, but if I am sleeping I really would rather that they didn't knock. If they ignore my requests not to do so, there isn't anything that I can do about that. I can still ask them not to, though, knowing full well that it may not work.

It is good to know in advance that this is a possibility. I am not a fan of this policy, but as everyone says, I can choose to stay elsewhere. If I do stay at WDW, it is easier to not be upset when I am prepared for this to possibly happen. I love the knowledge and wisdom shared on these boards. It helps to keep a positive attitude when you have information up front so you can be prepared.

Nope. I don't expect any post anywhere will have any impact

It would be rather hard to sleep much past 10:00 and check out by 11:00. I guess The Flash could, LOL

Otherwise we do plan and do sleep past 8:00 on check out day. Hasn't been a problem yet

When staying at hotels with an 11am check out (including Disney), I sleep until at least 1030, sometimes 1045, and always make it out of the room by 11. We're not early risers and I want to get as much sleep as possible before travelling. If stuff is packed the night before and ready to go, it doesn't take long to get up and out.

Wow. That can't happen in this family. Even DH is slower than that

Why? If someone is going to bang on my door at 830 why would I plan on sleeping later than that?

Frankly, if someone wakes me up at 830 by knocking on my door to clean the room I've paid to access until 11, I probably won't be able to fall back asleep (though I will try), but I will not be leaving that room until 10:59. Especially if I was previously planning on staying in that room until then. Someone trying to rush me out is not going to be successful. Disturbing someone like that is not acceptable and I'm not going to change my plans of staying in the room to accommodate their desire to clean early during the time I've paid for.

Definitely. I don't leave earlier than 11 if that's what I want to do. I just don't plan on sleeping past 830 am because I won't be able to go back to sleep either when they knock (I've never not had them knock by 830)
