heading down next month and was all prepared to have my family do this but now I'm confused. Another thread was talking about the RSR's free for all rush because rope walk was no more.

So is the wide right technique still a thing?

There was no 'rope walk' when we went on a EMH last December, so it was kind of a super rapid 'jog' to the entrance of the attraction. We rode with a minimal wait, then got off and went right back on as single riders (we are 3 adults). A bit later that morning, we got FPs for an evening return. It's a beautiful ride when all the lights are on! The routine might be different on a non EMH morning, however.

On non-EMH days, cast members still lead the crowd all the way down to the entrance of the attraction. Once you turn onto Route 66, you are forced to go single-file behind the rightmost cast member, so being on the far right is absolutely the best place to be. This is what we experienced on 1/1/16 when there was no EMH at DCA.
