Will be in DCA on a Monday in September, staying off site, so no early entry. I'm planning on going straight to the fastpass machine for RSR. I understand it could be a 45 minute wait (hopefuly less than that by Mon, Sept 24th). What rides can DH take 2 children on by himself while I wait in the fastpass line? Probably most of the bugs land rides? I know he can't take them both on toystory by himself (DS is almost 3 and DD is 5, so neither can ride alone.). How about Luigi's and Maters? Do they seat 3 or more at a time?

Yes all of bugs land except tuck and rolls driving buggys. Both mater and luigi can hold 3 people. Monsters inc, crush show, little mermaid, muppets 3D, and the downstairs of the animation building are all places they can go in the morning just the 3 of them. They can also ride the red trolley or meet and greet the many characters around the park.

DH=dear husband (or da** husband depending on context, lol), DD=dear daughter (darling), DS=dear son.

I doubt you'll be in the FP line for 45 minutes.

He should take them on Luigi's first and then Mater's, because those lines build quickly after opening. Bug's Land rides almost never get long lines, so it makes no sense to ride those early.

Also, he can take them on TSMM by himself - you can fit three in the car, but only two can play.

So I don't start yet another RSR FP thread.....

What is the best way to attack the RSR FP line on a Monday which is an EMH day which we will not have. We will have to contend with hotel guests already being in the park for an hour. Only upside is the projected park levels for that Monday are some of the lowest I've seen (CA Is a 3.4 according to TP).

Well, you'll probably have a choice of trying to ride early or get a FP. If you are there at opening time and get in line for a FP immediately you should be fine. It is possible that you could ride and get a FP, but you'd need to be in the front of the pack, and hope for no breakdowns. Two of the three mornings we were there this weekend, it was clear sailing during EMH (we rode three times in the first hour), but the ride broke down just as the rope drop people arrived. If it was me, I'd opt for the FP line first, because the breakdowns are so frequent - if you get in the standby line and there is a breakdown you'll end up waiting for an hour plus (most of the breakdowns this weekend were 1.5-2 hrs) and miss your chance for a FP. If you are holding FPs you can hop in the very short FP line when the ride is running.

That said, since you are going on a slow day (keep in mind, though, that even on a slow day, RSR will likely still have long lines), you might want to grab a FP and then see if you can hop in line right after. It also works for one member of the party to wait for FP while the others ride, so at least someone gets to ride more than once.

Have fun! :)

I was in the fast pass line on Sat morning... it started at thr end of Hollywood Blvd.. by the blue wall.. it took only 30 min. The line never stopped moving...

No sweat!

Thanks for your help everyone.

My other plan of attack was to have DH and DD wait in the standby line for RSR while DS and I wait in the fastpass line up. The downside of this is that it means two kids will have to wait in long line ups, and DS is too short to ride RSR anyways, so he'll be waiting in a lineup for a fastpass, which won't be fun for him at all!

If I've done my math correctly, DD will get to ride 5 times throughout the day. I'll get 3 fastpasses (DS2 won't have a park pass, because we're going the week before he turns 3.) DD will ride once with DH standby, 2nd time with me using rider swap, 3rd time with DH using fastpass (pick up another rider swap), 4th time with me using rider swap. And we'll have one fastpass left, so DH or I could ride solo, get another rider swap, and DD and other parent go again! Probably won't ride it this many times, since DS is the cars fan in the family, but he's only 38 inches tall and will just have to wait around while the rest of us have fun on the ride!

Is toy story one of the rides that keeps moving while you're getting on and off and you have to stand on the moving floor things like in the airport? (I remember from our trip last year that Little Mermaid and Buzz were like that, but can't remember if Toy Story was like this or not) If it's a moving floor one, it might be too tricky for DH to get two kids on and off this ride.

I got in line Monday at 8:15am, was out by 830am, and had tix for 1:30p.

What time did you enter the park? Did you arrive early and wait to get into the park, or did you just arrive at that time?

I went for early entry, and saw people lined up at 7:00am to get into the park. I'm wondering if you did the same thing.

Thanks :)

As for other rides to go on while you wait in RSR fast pass line - your husband might take the kids to Monsters Inc., or Ariels. The lines are not long for those. Maybe he can do Ariels, and then the Red River Creek Challenge Trail to keep them occupied while you are in line (another option).

Nope - the ride vehicles stop for boarding.

Just before you enter any ride like LM, or HM, you can ask the operator to slow it down. We do it for my mil who has a physical disability and for my 2 year old, who must, "my do it." They can slow it down, or stop it, depending on the needs of the person.
