RSR & Early Entry Question

Hi! This is my first post, but I just want to say how awesome this forum is ... I've gotten SO much helpful information for our upcoming DL trip. So thank you!

So my question is ... I've read how frequently RSR is down for maintenance. Is it ever up and running for the 7am early entry? I am having a really hard time deciding if we should go straight to RSR when we get into the park at 7 ... and just HOPE that it's running (and if it's not, risk wasting our entire early entry hour in line). Or should we do Mater and Luigi before getting in line for a RSR FP ... around 7:40, before park opens at 8?

Anyone have a tried-and-true strategy? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. We have two boys (age 5 and 3)and they are beyond excited to get to Carsland!

I think it's accurate to say that RSR is rarely open at 7AM, but it has happened. Your best bet will be...

1. Get to DCA earlier than 7 (6:30-6:40 preferably to be one of the first in line)
2. Run to RSR at 7

If it's open, go ahead and ride it, followed by Luigi's. After Luigi's, I might even just go down and ride Toy Story a few times before coming back and getting an RSR FP. Mater's line can get pretty short later in the afternoon, but in the morning can be a little long.

If it's not open, do not waste any time waiting in line. Go ride Luigi's right away, followed by Toy Story and/or Maters before lining up for RSR FP. They'll probably get the ride running later, so getting a FP will be crucial for not waiting a long time.

You will know whether or not the ride is operating before you get in line for RSR.

When we were there end of June/beginning of July, it was open at 7 both times we had early entry.

It was open today at 7 a.m! In perfect condition, no break downs at all from what I have heard. I was able to ride it twice, then get a fast pass and ride it again later. :) I suggest you ask someone that works there if RSR is working and if not DO NOT go rushing towards Cars Land it will be a mad house wait a bit, go on other rides first then hit Luigi's and Mater's :). The FP line takes about 30 minutes to get through so if you do want to get a fP I suggest you get in line before 8.. as they run out of FP early! :)

Was there last week and RSR was up at 7am on the 30th, but not up on the 31st. No one told us it was down, either. So be sure to be proactive and ask if RSR is up or not.

I don't think it is worth waiting in the RSR standby line if it is not up at 7am, when there are so many other things you could do. I would hit up the other Carsland rides and be sure to pick up a RSR FP for later use.

Be absolutely sure to get in the RSR FP line BEFORE 8am! Otherwise, you will be in the back of a very, very long line. They actually merge the EMH FP line and regular FP a minute or two before 8am, so I would be there no later than 7:55am.

Great info - thanks so much! So who do I ask if RSR is up and running? Will the person at the entry gate know?

If you are close enough to ask the CM at the turnstile, they might know. But I would also ask the CMs who are on BVS when you are allowed in. They have tons of them and they are telling everyone to stop running. :rotfl2:

There are also lots of CMs in Carsland and they should definitely know.

When I was there on Wednesday ~8:45, there was a sign that said RSR wouldn't open until 10am that day. There was already a huge fp line around carthay. Hope those poor people weren't waiting there since opening. Instead of trying that line, I walked towards RSR, where there was already a small crowd forming, went to a few shops, then by the time I walked back towards the fp line at 9:30, they were already gone, no more fp even though I thought they would wait until the ride opened. I would have never had a chance that day.

Ended up going single rider later in the day, the wait was almost exactly 35 minutes like the CM said, even though the single rider display isn't operational. Since we also had an ecv in our group, and got shifted to the disabled boarding, we lucked out and got to sit together anyway.

Just be flexible, and worst case, you might have a 2 hour wait in line which might not be much worse than including fp waiting. If so, just do it during a cooler time of the day.

When we were there at 7 last month, the CMs were telling everyone RSR was down before we made it to Cars Land - some people still went and got in line. We rode Luigi, Maters twice, and then got in FP line around 7:45. Like you, I went in with Plan A (ride RSR and get FP for later) and Plan B if RSR was down. I was very happy CMs kept us informed so we could plan before getting into CL.

We did early entry on Thursday and as the CMs were scanning our passes they were letting us all know that RSR would not be open until 10. There were also signs everywhere. We went and got in line for fast passes and received them at about 8:10. We got 9:15-10:15. We asked a CM how we were supposed to use them if the ride wasn't open yet and they had no clue why they were giving them out for that time. Anyways we had some extra time so we strolled back to the entrance and realized that the ride was open (~ 8:55). We ended up going single rider and using our fast passes at night! :cool1::thumbsup2
