Hey everyone!

I've been lurking since May and I wanted to let everyone know about our stay at RPR.

We checked in Thursday August 10. We were assigned to room 3444. It's in the second tower on the third floor. As we were walking down the hall to our room, we were hit with this smell of mildew and smoke. I know I asked for a non-smoking room, but at this point I thought the front desk made a mistake.

I went in the room and it smelled like old cigarettes. It also smelled like housekeeping was trying to cover it up with lysol or something. I look on the floor and the carpet was spotted and filthy. I remember reading another person's post about the dirty sheets, so after seeing all of this I check the sheets too.

The sheets were okay. But, the pillowcases has some stains. I was trying to not make a big deal out of it b/c we just got in from a long flight and I just wanted to relax. So, I just used the less stained of the pillows on my bed and flipped it over. The pillows on my BFs bed were fine.

After touring I-drive, we come home to take a shower. However, since my soap was confiscated at the airport, I needed to use hotel soap. I went into the shower and there was absolutely no soap. I call FD and they said that they would send some up. 1 hour later, no soap. I call FD and they said the runner left and was on his way. 1 hour and 45 minutes later, we get soap. :confused3

The next day we hit the parks and the FOTL option is awesome I must say.
We come back home at 5:30pm and our room had not been cleaned. I'm normally a calm person, but I'm a little upset now b/c it's nap time. I get cranky at nap time.

I called FD and they said that housekeeping was running behind and that they would be there in an hour or 2. I was P0'd b/c 1) I wanted to come back to a clean room and 2) I didn't want housekeeping disturbing our nap.

My BF suggests that I call management. We got the standard room with a garden view for $183.20 a night from AAA. So, when I called the manager I told him everything that had gone wrong since day 1 and I asked if I got the crappy room b/c if the discounted price. The manager assured me that was not the case. But, I don't know b/c I remember when I called to make the ressie, the woman said that they had a few rooms set-aside as AAA rooms. The manager appologized for all the mishaps and offered to upgrade our room for free. Cool.

So we pack up and head for tower 3 with a pool view. Wow. The hallway and the room smelled sooo much better. We also had a view of IOA, it was awesome. We took a nap and slept peacefully.

Woke up to take a shower and head to citywalk. Once again, no soap. Called front desk and told them about last night and asked if we could get soap sooner. They said no b/c they only had one person working in housekeeping and it would take 2 hours. I hung up the phone. Why the heck a big ol' hotel like RPR had only one person working is beyond me. Angry, I call them again asked if I could just go down and pick up the soap. The answer was no. So, BF goes out to find soap. In the hallway he meets someone who works in housekeeping and they strike up a convo. BF tells him the problem. Guy laughs at the "2 hour wait" and gets lots of soap and brings to us. We tell him all the problems we've had in 2 days. He says it's b/c Universal has a new hotel and all of the old staff at RPR went to work there. He said that the people at RPR now are new.

Good things about RPR--- The outside (pool, lagoon, gardon) of the hotel is totally beautiful. Breakfast was good. FOTL is GREAT. Water Taxi's are cool.

But, I will NEVER go back there. Next time we'll do PBH.

Oh no! What an awful experience! I am so sorry to hear about that.

What is the deal with the new hotel? Is it opened yet?

BTW - are you going to write i letter? i think that you should. good gracious - who would have thought it would take all that to get some soap!

Yeah what is the new hotel????? I haven't heard anything about this, are you sure? Or is it an offsite hotel?

I'm guessing you did get a crappy room set aside for the AAA but just a guess, I usually don't call for stuff like that just walk around the halls until I see a housekeeper dolly with all the stuff on it then just snag away, hey at least I don't complain to em, so I figure its an even trade.

My BF didn't get specifics about the hotel. The housekeeping guy just said "new hotel" and BF took it to mean a universal hotel. I don't know.

Thanks for your sympathy. I was hoping I wouldn't get flamed by the RPR lovers. :)

ETA: I am going to write a letter.

Hi thats ridiculous service I'll pm u the email of the room manager, trust me that is not RPR service

I'm sorry to hear of all the mishaps...yikes! I don't think they set aside "crappy" rooms for people paying discounted rates. I paid $129 (APH rate) a night my last visit and was upgraded for free to a very nice king suite. I wasn't even supposed to be upgraded since I'd booked APH rate. My visit before that was booked with entertainment rate and I received a nice room...not a king suite, but nice & clean with a great view.

That's good that you let management know of the problems you were having while you were there. That's great that they upgraded you. Thank you for sharing your experience. :)

Oh well, you'll like the PBH better anyway. For the extra money, the rooms are bigger, and the bathroom is huge. I've stayed at all 3, and we're going back to the PBH for HHN.

we just stayed there on 8/6 for one night. Had the passholder discount for 129 a night. I asked for a room in tower 1 and got it. Did not get any loews benefits. The room was nice. Sheets were clean. Would stay again for that price just for fotl.

WOW!!!!!! Shocked to hear this... We have never had an experience like that there. I'm sorry it wasn't as great as you would have liked it to be and I think you handled it great! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the replies. After reading all the great things people say about RPR on this board, I was excited to go. I couldn't believe everything that happened.

BUT, I am very fond of IOA. Can't wait to go back there!

I've had AAA for many years. When they say they "put aside a few rooms for AAA members," they don't literally mean specific rooms. They mean that there are a limited # of rooms that can get the AAA rate. I've tried to book hotel rooms that are sold out of AAA rates but still have rooms available at reg. price. It's just like using frequent flier miles, very limited # FF seats per flight.
Sorry you had a bad time at RPR. We will be staying there for the 1st time in Sept. just for 1 night. (Just want the FOTL perk!) In this case the end of summer special $149 was better than the AAA rate of $183. I hope the new people are not so new by then!

Sorry you had a bad experience.

But I must say, I am extremely impressed with the quality of service you received once you mentioned the problem.

The manager not only immediately switched rooms for you, but he upgraded you as well? That is really going above and beyond as he really only needed to move you to a more suitable room. You couldn't ask for much more! I assume that is why they have the 4* rating that they do.

Besides soap, were there any other issues with the upgraded room?

Glad you had a great time.

Yea, the manager was very nice and apologetic.

But, I wouldn't consider upgrading the room, "above and beyond". The upgrade was only for 1 night, which equates to about $20 more. I'm a Hilton Hotel girl and I know I would have gotten a night for free if such a disaster would have happened there. I've stayed at many hotels and had some problems, but I think the stay at RPR was the worst EVER. It was very surprising.

As for the upgrade, the sheets were clean and the smell was MUCH better. But, I saw some stains on the floor again. I figure the rooms must have had some heavy traffic.
