Mom (82)arrived on Mon. at 10:45am in a towncar. I had already checked her in and got the room key. On a pre-check of her room I discovered she not only had a poolview but Dr. Doom in the distance too! ....at least SOMEBODY got the poolview I requested! lol Mom fell in love with RPR because she's been to Hawaii and always wants to go back. After changing into park clothes we head over to US. Drizzly kind of day so mom wears green rain bonnet all day. I had bought us all ponchos earlier that morn. but we just didn't want to put them on....even though dh carried them aaallll day---btw, those blue US bags tend to turn your hands blue if you carry them around forever! We walked the path to City Walk and mom got used to seeing the little lizzards all over. First ride at US was Jimmy Neutron. Wow, I forgot how rough it is........and mom's tendency to motion sickness....oops. About 2 min. more and we might have had a problem. As it was, we just sat in the shade outside for a while and she was ok. Just walked around a lot today...and sat. Mom is starting to realize she can't go as long as she did at WDW with us a couple years ago. "I'm sorry, I need to sit and rest again" Kids didn't mind taking a lot of breaks either and even went to find lemonade, etc. for grandma. Mom spied MIB and wanted to ride since she had heard us all talk about it so much. She scored 4000 and bought the pic for around $20 (darn, coulda used my AP card, but forgot!) Asked later if she wanted to ride it again "no, once was enough" lol We opt to take the boat back to RPR aroun 8:30 and mom says "boats are much better than walking" ds18 and I plant ourselves on the chairs by the volleyball walkway and sit enjoying the night for about an hour and a half....beautiful spot to sit. Next morning (aside from hearing how much I snore...oops) kids are up and ready to go so we met mom at her room (she wouldn't leave her room unless we came and got her because she was afraid of getting lost) We opt for the boatride to CityWalk and take in IOA. We decide Spiderman would be too rough, as might Shrek. Sons show grandma their new favorite pastime...shooting water cannons at Ripsaw Falls riders. Mom likes that and has to try it a few times. Early afternoon finds us heading back to RPR by boat. Naps all around! We headed over to Margaritaville for dinner....love AP seating--15 min wait instead of the 35 we were told!. Mom decided before we went in that we should have margaritas---yea mom! At first mom thought Jimmy Buffet was ugly (her words, not mine) but said "he's actually rather nice looking" Too bad the volcano failed to go off. Mom and I both had sirloin dinners and dh had crab cakes. Really don't remember what kids had. Good food all around though. Stayed at US for fireworks. We found a lagoon table near BTTF for mom to sit around 8:00. She loves San Francisco and could look right across at it while the lights all started coming on. We bought her some lemonade and she was content to just sit there. The rest of us did MIB a couple of times, BTTF, and ET. We all met back at the table mom saved for us and had pretzels and more lemonade. The fireworks were right over our heads.....really pretty. The only problem was the fallout was hitting us......little black, sandy stuff. ds15 got some in his eyes.....saw several people having same problem. Mom says "is it safe to be here?" Too late to move anywhere, we wait it out then follow the mass exodus to the gate. It would help if the park lights came back on a little sooner. We opt for the shuttle bus (to the left of the US entrance) and mom says "good, I don't like riding boats at night" Trip takes about 10 min. and mom is deep in conversation w/driver the whole way. Next morning...finally no drizzle or rain and mom is surprised to find out I have rented a cabana for the day (she had said it sounded like fun while planning this trip) We were in #1 w/jacuzzi out front. She loved it and when I finally talked her into getting in the jac. she even posed for pics! Mom and I shared chick. fingers and each had a straw. smoothie. She's really impressed with this place! We laughed about an unidentifiable purple fruit in the basket. I finally cut it open with a plastic knife...green w/seeds....still have no idea what it is/was. This is mom's last day, so we brought her luggage to our room since her ride won't get there until 4. Mom's car arrives right on time. She is all excited because her name's on a sign again! She gave me a big hug goodbye and thank you. She's leaving for Calif. in 2 days and I won't see her for about 3 weeks. Really strange feeling. But then.......as we turn away from her departing towncar.......I feel this excitement taking over......MY VACATION STARTS NOW!!! I ended up going back to the cabana later in the evening and staying until pool closing at 11. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like your mystery fruit might have been a kiwi.
We also kept getting hit with the ashes from the fireworks at US. Learned NOT to sit downwind!!

Nope, wasn't a kiwi....my kids eat them all the time. This had a dark purple, VERY hard skin about the size of a large plum.......only know 'cause I tried to be daring and bite into it before using the knife. It had a small layer of light green fruit inside but appeared to be mostly black seeds.

Could it have been a pomengranate? (spelling?) It sounds like that.

no, we've had pomegranites here too. It wasn't as big or red as that.......same type of outside though, maybe a different kind of pomegranite?

Hope u remember to start using your AP for those discounts
:jester:

Highlander, yep! started remembering by day 4. We added up the discounts and seemed to have saved almost the full price of one of our APs! I even bought a last minute gift for myself at RPR.....a really pretty sweatshirt.....and saved over $10!!! My wallet is sad now though, all the fun cards have been put away and replaced with my grocery card, etc. :(

Thats so true we saved nearly $400 in 2 weeks with AP well worth the money:jester:
