RPH vs PBH for 1rst visit??

Hi! I am trying to plan our first trip to Universal this Aug and are wondering where would be best to stay? We have a ds (13)! We have been to Disney many times, but family wanted a change! I am having a hard time planning?? I would appreciate any help!

My 10 year old prefers Portofino for the slide at the pool. We have stayed at the Royal Pacific several times and he loves it too, just not as much because there isn't a slide. I'm the Disney lover in my family and my son and husband loves Universal. The FOTL is truly awesome and allows us to sleep-in and enjoy the pools in the afternoon. The hotels are much nicer than Disney - even the cheaper RPH compared to our stay at the Polynesian.
