Roy's? To reserve or not to reserve?

My sister adored eating at Roy's on Maui and recommended we try a location on Oahu. I have a 'non adventurous' tween food wise but the other 3 of us enjoy any kind of food! Do you have any positive or negative experiences with any of the 3 locations? Thanks again!!

We went to the Ko Olina Roy's a couple of weeks ago. The food, as always, was awesome, and the two assistant servers were great, we were a group of 10. The main server had an attitude problem from the get go. She treated us like we'd never been out of the house before, and that our only previous fine dining experiences were at best Chili's. She was super condescending and rude. When we pay almost $700 for dinner, it'd be nice if it was served with a smile. She still got a pretty nice tip, just because we didn't want the two assistants to be penalized. I've been to the Maui location, and preferred that one. Our experience at Ruths Chris in Waikiki earlier in our trip was much better than the Ko Olina Roy's.

I'd say reserve! We had a great dinner there for my 50th birthday on June 9th. We ate at the one across the street for Aulani. Delicious food (party of 6), excellent service, definitely expensive though. We enjoyed it thoroughly--it was our 1 fancy meal of our trip.

We had an outstanding meal and a wonderful server when we went about three weeks ago (Ko Olina location). She was very knowledgable and answered all of questions patiently. Everyone adored their food and drinks. Definitely reserve it!

We dined there just a few days ago at the Ko Olina location, with food and service being excellent. Another vote for reserve. My only regret is only going once during our stay.

+1 for the Ko Olina location as we were there back in April and enjoyed our meal very much.

a Hawaiian friend said she's been to the Ko Olina one as well as another, and that the former is definitely better.

Also, Roy's often seemed readily available on Open Table same day and up to 30 minutes before usually.

I'm going with mixed feelings on this, and I've eaten at the Roy's in Ko Olina a couple times, as well as the one near us many times (Baltimore is our closest one right now).

The one at Ko Olina is on a golf course. While I love to eat outside at Ko Olina, it's always too cold and windy at this place. The prices are WAY higher than Roy's at our current home. The food is good, but last time we ate there, I was blown away at how much we spent (it was likely $400 for the 4 of us adults eating there). I'm not cheap, but it just was good not THAT good?

I have never seen this place full, so would not worry about making a reservation too far in advance. I'd just call that day and see what's good. Which is unusual yeah - for most places we make reservations, but this place is never booked that I've seen.

I'd see if the "nonadventurous" tween wants to just eat back at the resort really. For the time we went with friends, we all left our kids at the resort (the Marriott Ko Olina) to fend for themselves. They enjoyed it much more than going out to where they didn't feel like going! They hung out in our condo and I forget what they had - maybe we made something for them ahead of time like pizza I think.
