I wanted to share what happened to a friend of mine who just stayed (Oct 1-4 2011) at the Royal Plaza near DTD....

- BED BUGS
- Pool wasnt' cleaned in 4 days
- Dirty pool water (she said you could see the suntan oil/lotion floating on the water)
- Rusty water from her faucet in the bathroom
- Non existent house keeping

And needless to say when she notified the hotel management they werent' around to help her and she's still waiting for her credit card to be credited and the hotel is denying her! She had to go to the urgent care to care for her bites!

Its sad and disgusting.

(she tried to get another resort room at WDW but from the Food & Wine festival and the marathon weekend there weren't Values or Mods available for her)

I hope no one else has this happen to them.

No she's not why do you ask that? Would it make a difference? She's a professional Administrative assistant...so why would her career make a difference?

This is not first hand info but "a friend of mine" story you posting in multiple forums ?

Some people tend to exaggerate when they get worked up while giving 3erd party accounts of events, yours is a good example of this.

We stayed at the Royal Plaza a couple of years ago. The housekeeping was horrible! The bathroom was not clean when we checked in, we notified front desk, and they said they would take care of it. Two days later, it was still not cleaned well. We asked to speak to the hotel manager to complain about it (we were being polite) and waited 45 minutes for her to meet with us (the front desk person kept telling us different stories as to why we were kept waiting -- from she's on a phone call, to she's on break, to she's at dinner, etc.). Well, we waited and the manager finally came to meet with us and got the housekeeping supervisor to meet us at the room, and we got it cleaned. The day after that, we were walking towards our room, when we noticed the housekeeper putting a 'DO NOT DISTURB" sign on our door. When we questioned her, she told us it was already there. We weren't going to argue with her.
Our solution to this is that we will never stay here again!

Hi my friend please don't say that, every body can express it's feeling.

Hey there Princess!

I absolutely feel your friend's pain! If you look at my threads you will see one, under the same name as this post, I made last April.

That hotel has gone SOOOO far downhill it's not even funny anymore! I think, I am not certain, but I think the hotel changed hands and the new owners/management just don't have the same finesse and love for the hotel that the previous people did because it wasn't always like that!

Just like your friend, it wasn't one huge thing that spoiled it ... it was a combination of a lot of little things that came together to make the stay a cluster! In a way I think it's worse when a hotel has a lot of little things wrong with it rather than one big thing. First off ... Bed bugs are ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANY HOTEL ... PERIOD!

When a hotel can't get the little things right then you know they have bigger operating problems! Come on, it shouldn't be an issue to have a clean pool, which is usually a draw for any hotel, or clean room water, or getting someone to bring you up another towel!

Bottom line ... there is WAY WAY too much competition down there to be messing up like that and all it takes is one bad experience to scare people off and I can tell you that my family and I will NOT be returning any time in the foreseeable future!

Anyway, take care, be safe, and tell your friend she is not alone!

I always prefer a review written by the person who stayed there. Second hand information can sometimes be distorted.

Royal Plaza gets mixed reviews on Trip Advisor. 3.5* A few people shared experience similar to what's reported in this thread. However most thought it was decent. Good value. A few people thought it was excellent.

It's kind of hard for a hotel to provide a 100% excellent experience when competition is forcing them to charge rates half of what's required.

Bedbugs are a fact of life in hotels in every star category.

I had a list of bad experiences at BCV. Still had a good vacation.

Okay, this is JUST A RESPONSE TO STATEMENTS ... I am not attacking the person who made them I simply want to counter those statements ... PLEASE don't get all hurt!

First, let's start off with the competition and rates thing. Nobody forces any hotel to charge any specific price. There are PLENTY of hotels, Disney and non-Disney, with high room rates who have no problem filling those rooms. If a hotel can't afford to run a decent operation then shut your doors or eventually we as customers will shut them for you by going elsewhere!

Also, if a hotel, for WHATEVER REASON, can't afford to maintain amenities then they shouldn't offer them ... in this case the pool. Let's take Disney because they are the Gold standard ... their pools are immaculate and always well maintained and I don't think the R.P.'s pool sees a tenth the activity that any given Disney pool does so it shouldn't be as difficult to maintain it properly. --- And, YES, I do have an in-ground pool at my home so I DO understand what maintenance goes into it. ---

Next, to say that bed bugs are a fact of life in hotels is totally unacceptable and would be like saying that roaches and rats are a part of every restaurant and eating establishment ... that is simply not true and I think many hotels would be utterly offended by that kind of generalization.

Here's what to consider in this case ... first, let's ASSUME that the poster's friend didn't have bedbugs with her from home when she entered the hotel. If we assume that is true than you must conclude that the bedbugs were in that hotel room prior to her arrival ... was that room cleaned and the bedding changed prior to the new guest coming in? If it wasn't then that is disgusting by itself and if it was then all the cleaning staff needs to be either trained or retrained on bedbugs. This was ALL OVER the news ... bedbugs are NOT invisible ... we're not talking about using a black-light to detect slime on the walls here ... we're talking about crawly critters. Go to Google, type bed bugs, then click the images tab to see what we're dealing with ... if you miss that then you simply don't care!

Once again ... cheap doesn't have to mean dirty. The All-Star Resorts are "cheap" and the walls may be paper thin but they aren't dirty!

Finally, PLEASE remember ... I am not attacking the poster ... I am attacking the hotels who don't know how to run a proverbial railroad and would hide behind statements like that! If you saw roaches and rats running around a restaurant it would be inexcusable and it should be no more acceptable for a hotel to do that either.

JUST MY OPINIONS!!!

I stayed at the Royal Plaza this past weekend. It was horrible. We checked in at 3:30 in the morning and were given a room facing the highway. It was so loud I was unable to sleep, which is unusual for me. I can sleep through anything, but it was obnoxious. I called the next morning and they moved us. That room had the fan from the air conditioner running the entire time. At least it wasn't a truck creating all that noise!

We're used to other hotels. This hotel was not what we're used to. Yes, it was a good price. However, I wouldn't stay here again if it were free.

Bed bugs are an industry wide problem, sorry but it doesnt matter if you don't want to believe it, it simply Is true.

Even Disney has them little critters, check it out for yourself.

Well, I HATE the dreadful bedbugs. When I was a child and we had them.

I keep aware of the possibility every time I travel. I live in a single family home and would dread bringing these critters home which could potentially cost me alot of money to eliminate and always check the rooms when I travel. Especially, Disney Hotels which I know have a high volume of traffic/people. So far, it's been o.k. Although, I try to make a thorough check each time.

I really don't think cost of a hotel room is relevant to this issue. It's more high traffic/use in a particular room.

Just check the beds (I know it's an inconvenience) but in the long run beneficial for your peace of mind and pocket.

I DID NOT say that bed bugs were not a problem! I concede the point that bedbugs ARE a problem and a big one at that but to insinuate that EVERY hotel has them is simply ridiculous at best and downright slanderous at worst. You cannot make generalizations like that without proof to back them up. Produce findings from a credible investigation or study that found 100% of all hotels everywhere were infested with bedbugs and then I'd believe you. The plague was a horrific epidemic but not EVERYONE was infected.

But, you know what I find to be REALLY annoying? Let's go beyond the bickering of who does have bedbugs and who doesn't and wanting studies and playing the he said she said games ... why does ANYONE actually DEFEND the hotels???

That REALLY chaps my butt! So are you ACTUALLY telling us that we should just accept the fact ... from what you seem to be saying ... that every hotel is a pit infested with bugs and that we should get over it just as easily as we would if the hotel didn't have Sprite in the soda machines? Sorry, I can't do that!

Maybe there are others here who have no problem going to hotels that are filthy, vermin ridden hovels but when I pay $400 per night for a room I hold the hotel to a higher standard and I'm not willing to just shrug it off.

Once again ... I am NOT saying that bedbugs aren't out there and I did NOT say a lot of hotels haven't been infected ...

My exact statement was:

"Bed bugs are ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANY HOTEL ... PERIOD!"

NOBODY is going to convince me that it should be acceptable. So we are WORLDS apart on this and will simply have to agree to disagree!

I'm with you.

While I agree bed bugs can and will happen almost anywhere. How the hotel handles it is another story. Guests should not have to search for bed bugs when they arrive. Staff should do that while cleaning the room and alert the management if there is a problem.

If guests of a hotel are bit and need medical attention because of it it should be at the hotel's expense.

Just a couple of small examples of what a decent place would do in case of a bed bug problem.

p.s. i'm not saying don't do your own search when you arrive just in case.

OH! THANK-YOU SO MUCH MYSTERIA! For a moment I thought the whole world had gone quite mad! If you're a woman, I could kiss you! If you're a guy ... ehh ... hopefully settle for a drink?!? :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Bedbugs are NOT invisible and if the hotel staff is cleaning the room and changing the bedding in between guests like they should be then they should notice them! Once again ... Google bedbugs, click on the images tab and LOOK what we're talking about!

And let me reiterate ... if they aren't cleaning rooms and changing bedding in between guests ... THAT IS DISGUSTING!

I am a woman, albeit middle aged and married. So I'm sure the drink is a better idea anyway. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Back to topic. Let's compare a bed bug infestation to a roach infestation. Nobody would accept roaches in their room (not the odd one that sneaks in or a palmetto bug), would they? No, they'd find it nasty and unacceptable. Same difference. Actually bed bugs are worse becasue they sleep with you and suck your blood.

why does ANYONE actually DEFEND the hotels???

Who did that? I think in your rant you're assigning positions to people who never said such a thing, you should look at what people actually write not what you think they mean :)

You know what burns my butt? a flame about 4' high, well that and people who rant and respond to things that were not written. Well actually, the latter doesn't burn my butt I think it's funny, but the first part still does.

I don't get the soda thing at all, it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

And I never said every hotel is a pit infested... continue rant of some thing I never said. What I said is bedbugs are part of life and all hotels have them. If you took it to mean every single hotel has bedbugs then I'd repeat what I wrote above: you should look at what people actually write not what you think they mean. All hotels IE Disney, Marriott , Hilton etc.

I travel for work frequently and stay at many places, and I have seen no rhyme or reason to bedbugs being in a hotel on the cost scale. So I'll stick with my original comment of all hotels have bug issues.

I don't settle for mediocrity, but I have reasonable expectations. I prefer first hand accounts of things unlike the way this thread started, and I'll point out things that I don't agree with, and I don't agree with you.

Not meant to be personal, just truthful. I refrain from assigning positions to people, if I don't understand their point I'll ask, not assume :).
