I am 100 percent in agreement with that review. Spot on from our experience several years ago. The hotel was nice, but there was trash everywhere, the boat service started 20 mins AFTER the park opened. The staff (other than the front desk) was awful (one on their cell phone in the shop). We have not and will not be back. We stayed at Hard Rock and it was much better. Next trip we are trying portofino.

Thanks to Pete and the OP for your reviews. I will not be staying there based on this feedback. I guess I'll go back to the Hard Rock.

A special thank you to you, Pete, for approaching the DJ about the vulgar music he was playing around kids. A very classy move on your part, very UNclassy response from the manager and DJ.

same here, we were looking for a more "affordable" option of staying on-site at Universal to get the express pass but now I think I will just have to suck it up and pony up the extra $$ to stay at Portofino Bay.

If the express pass is the main reason for staying than just buy the pass. I would like to stay on site also but after reviewing the price of nearby (nice) hotels and adding the pass for 4 of us it looks as though off site is going to work out to be a better deal, and no ponying involved. Just a thought, do some math and see what you come up with.

Haven't listened to the review yet, but I will say that I'm impressed that they have a Keurig coffee machine in the rooms!

We have stayed there a couple of times and had very nice experiences. Would I stay there again, yes, of course I would. The Lowe's hotels are also pet friendly and had a nice area to walk my four legged daughter. Wish Disney would have an option like this.

Agree, big props to Pete for stepping up and complaining about the music! We were really turned off at the pool also. They were having a a limbo contest and my kids were joining in. Several kids were cheating, getting back in line, etc and they were playing for prizes and kept letting the kids get back in line. A poor little girl that should won lost to a kid that cheated at least 3 times. Sad.

Anyway, all that said, I really enjoyed the Hard Rock and will stay there again. However, I will not stay at Royal ever. The rooms were fine and hotel itself very nice, but not worth it for all the issues. Also, we filled out the survey too and I hammered them on all the issues, never heard back from them. Sidenote, we have some issues at our last stay at a Great Wolf Lodge, I hammered them for it on the survey. They called me, offered me 100 bucks off my next stay and we went back and had a great time. Royal didn't do that.....guess they stay busy enough without my business.

Not only that, but you smell terrible. They probably wouldn't have you back anyway. :cool2:

The other thing in addition to the whole issue with music that has put me off from staying here for my Dec trip is the $20 per day fee for parking!! That's outrageous! Can't remember if Pete mentioned it in his review or not but is there also a per day resort fee? I can't stand it when hotels charge extra for parking, pool use, etc. with those "resort fees!"

That IS a nice touch !

The temptation to take all the K-cups home with you must be immense.

In all honesty I'll still be booking my one night there for august as the review gave thumbs up to the two things I'm looking for - a nice room and the Express perk.
I agree that the poor choice of song and attitude by the pool was most definitely unacceptable but as two adults going to Universal before our two weeks at WDW the review was very positive.
In fact I'm kinda glad there were negatives, because as Pete said on the thread on the universal boards, he sells this hotel and if this wasn't an unbiased review he could have made everything glowing :)

:goodvibes

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Hard Rock Hotel last summer. The FOTL access for a family of 5 over 3 days made the hotel stay worth it for that alone. Add to the quality of the room, garden view and a great breakfast experience in The Kitchen are just some of the reason we are going back in July :goodvibes
