I had what I thought was an odd conversation with the reservation agent today.

I have a room at the Royal Pacific booked for 2 nights with a AAA rate and when I called to cancel the first night and keep the second, she told me that I couldn't. She said the reason was because they do not have any other rooms available for checking in on the second day. I kept insisting that I already have the reservation, all I want to do is modify it and she still said I couldn't. I'm assuming it has something to do with the AAA rate.

I'm thinking that I will have to watch the website for a room to come available, call them back and see if I can then make the change. Has anyone ever had this happen to them????

A lot of times, you have to stay a certain number of nights in order to get the AAA discount. So, if you take away a night, then it might be that they don't have any 'regular' rate rooms left and you don't qualify for the AAA rate if not staying at least two nights. But, I could be wrong.

I had that exact problem. It is because they cancel your entire reservation to change it, so it makes no difference what you've already got but what is available. It is a really stupid way to do things. I kept watching and when the room came available I changed it. You can also try calling again since some reservationists seem better at manipulating the system. If worse comes to worse call the hotel directly.

I had an annual pass rate, so it wasn't anything to do with AAA. Perhaps you were talking to the same reservationist as I was, since I had never had that issue before.

I had this problem for our stay this July. I had room booked and called to apply the Stay More rate, but said i couldnt, as they had no rooms, like yourself i said i had the room just need the new rate applied ,still no , called a few times and gave up. About a week later i saw an even cheaper rate, so phoned to see if i could book it, rather than try and change the rate, so got it booked ,and cancelled original reservation

i don't know the dates you booked the 2 day for but, if it is on a weekend, friday/saturday, that could be the issue.

some dates you can not book a saturday night alone.
it depends on the date and event that will be going on in the parks.

In October of 2007, I was not able to modify and keep a AAA rate for Hard Rock when I needed to reduce it from 3 to 2 nights. In order to get the AAA rate for only 2 nights, we had to move over to Portofino Bay.

I have never had Universal to be able to modify my existing reservation - they always have to cancel it and start over.

Can you tell me what rate is cheaper than the Stay More rate for July? Thanks,
Maggie

sorry, it was still a stay more rate , but a cheaper one than the one i was going to chage to.
The Stay More i wanted to change to first time was $128 + Tax, but they could not do it, i then saw one later for $188+Tax and $202 + tax for Fri & Sat, and booked it, and cancelled original.
Hoping APH rates come out cheaper for July
