Thinking about booking either of the above 2 through the World Passport collection for a week stay during the summer of 2006. We are a family of 5.

Can anyone pass on comments about either or both? Also, since MS is closed for the weekend, can anyone tell me the points for a week?

Thanks alot!!!

It comes down to personal preference. The Sands is newer, larger and closer to the action. The Islander, Mayan and Caribbean are all right next door to each other. Many people like the ambience of the older 3 but the Mayan has units that don't have a very good view. I'd only take the Mayan if I could confirm it was a good location, at least trading DVC. That should be 254 points, not 270 for Summer. Don't forget direct exchanges and rentals.

There are a few units there for Summer 2006 already buy I didn't see any 2 BR units at the places I'd suggest. VCI (club International) has plenty of unit, but since it closes in 2007 (or at least will be sold and closed to owners there) and isn't in the league with the others, I'd skip it. But if you can get VCI another way much cheaper, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there. I have in the past and enjoyed it greatly.

I went back and searched with a stronger trader and there are plenty of units there now that fit your general requirements.

The Royal Islander in Cancun is different (and much nicer) than the one in St. Marteen. To elaborate on them, many look at the Sands as a cement jungle, big and cold. Others really like it. Much like OKW and DVC, it's all a matter of personal preference. Since you don't have experience to base it on, I'd suggest you take what comes along keeping in mind my warning about the Mayan. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. But if you plan on going into town much, the Sands is a few miles closer in.

i have stayed at all the royal resorts in cancun, my father in law owns his timeshare at the vci. all of these resorts are very nice. vci is pretty far away from everything and is not on the ocean side but i really like it there, sometimes the ocean is too rough to swim in. my choice out of them all would be the islander, not for any special reason i just liked it the best. again all of these resorts are very nice and i dont think you could go wrong with staying at any of them. vci and the myan are alot older and the decor is not as nice as the rest of them, but they are still nice. have a great trip no matter where you stay!
