Anyone here signed up for the Princess Weekend Royal Family 5K? :) Or run it in the past and can tell me about your experience?

My BFF are registered for 2014!

DH & I did it last year & had a great time. It was over before we knew it! We didn't do any character stops but saw a few. DH was fiddling w/ his iPod once we got in Epcot & I remember telling him to put it away & look around... we were there @ sunrise, too cool.

We were in the 2nd corral & ran a little when we started 'back stage'. But once we got in Epcot, most people were walking & enjoying that experience. Lots of families making memories.

Wow, thinking back now, I realize just how terrific it was & can't wait for 2014!

That's great to hear! I'm doing it with my daughter. Do people do costumes like they do for the half? Or not as much?

You see folks from regular running gear to full blown costumes. We were somewhere in between w/ our paper mouse ears from a party store, my tiny tiara, & Team Sparkle skirt. Whatever you decide, I hope you & your daughter have a fantastic time.

I see you're @ AoA; we'll be statying there, too (Lil' Mermaid).

I did the 5K in January during Marathon Weekend (same course) and there seemed to be more costumes during this race, and they were a lot more elaborate.

One thing I noticed was that character lines seemed to be longer than in the longer races. I am all about the character pictures and, if I remember correctly, I saw 5 on the 5K course. I only stopped for one though because the lines were incredibly long.

You'll have a blast though. I thought it was a really fun race, and I LOVED being in Epcot as the sun was coming up. :)

I would love to go waiting on DW to try and get the time off so we can register

Oh wow, long lines as in it could take 5-10 minutes of waiting?

I haven't done the Princess 5k -- but I've done, I think, all the other WDW 5ks, including the Jan 5K, which has, I believe, the same course. Here's some thoughts:

First, awhile back the Jan 5k was my first "race" -- and I walked the whole darn thing; I took pictures (although not with the characters, since I didn't know how quickly the lines moved): I just generally looked around at Epcot. And I still made it in good time -- not a balloon lady in sight. I think they will move you along (or pull you off) if you're taking FOREVER, but I suspect that they're far more flexible than with the longer races.

Fast forward a couple of years to the Jungle Jingle 5K -- I'd been running for a while so before getting into the portion of the race that was in AK, I was making great time. BUT once I got in the park, I took pictures with Every. Single. Character. By the time I got to Santa Goofy, they telling runners that the weren't letting anyone else in line -- but if you wanted you could get in line and then wait 5-10 mins. for Goofy to come back out. Which is what I did. Why not? If I want to run for PRs, I do it at home where the races are cheap and there's nothing fun to pose with. And you know what? Still no balloon ladies. Again, these are family fun runs so they're far more mellow. (I'd be curious to know if any WISHers have been pulled from a 5K course come to think of it).

When you see a line for a character, it's going to move FAR more quickly than, say, in the park. Everybody just wants to get their picture and keep on going. It takes less than a minute a group, easy.

I really love the 5Ks -- it's a very laid back atmosphere, the scenery is great, and the characters are SO MUCH FUN.

That's my 8 1/2 cents, anyway

My husband and I are planning to walk it in Feb. I was planning to run the 1/2 but my husband asked if I would walk it with him. I told him I thought it would be a great thing to do together since this will be his first 5K.

The Royal family 5K is great! Once you do one you will be bitten by the run disney bug for sure. That was the first 5K me and my family had ever run. They just started coraling people this past year, but don't worry, I don't believe it is based on time. I think it is from when you register. It is said that you need to keep a 15 minute mile pace or you risk the chance of getting swept off the course but I have never seen that happen. I have completed the race and then stuck around to watch others finish and it was still well over an hour and people were still crossing the finish line and there are many walkers. We have recaps and pictures of the past 3 years of Royal Family 5K's on our website. Just click on the link below if you are interested.

Enjoy!

My DH, 10 yr. old DD, 8 yr. old DS, and myself ran the Royal Family last year. Some people did wear costumes, but there were a lot more costumes at the Princess Half. The first mile (give or take) is boring, but once you enter Epcot it is like a burst of energy. I would definitely recommend it.

Loved your blog post, thanks for sharing!!

Is anyone able to tell me what the approximate discount is if you book for this race weekend? I just got a PIN code and I'm trying to determine which would be the better deal :) We weren't sure we were going to be able to go, but now maybe we can!!

We will be going too but I can't book my hotel until the end of Sept (we are leaving on our first cruise on Sept 8). I hope we will get some good discounts or free dining.

I know you posted this over a month ago but I am posting to say I just signed up.
