Thanks,
Jill

I just did the Halloween 5k and have done the Expedition Everest Challenge 5k and scavenger hunt. Both were a lot of fun and well attended.

The Halloween 5k was a bit annoying though. There are a lot of people and they didn't do the waves / corrals very well so that there was a lot of gridlock. It's fun though...

R they doing the everest thing this year and they have a 5k challenge? I'm going to be at the world in may as well so I might do that either as well or instead if I cant get decent flights

It is posted that they are doing the 5K Everest Challenge in 2012, but they do not have the dates posted yet.

are the scavenger hunt and race 2 separate things or one big race all together? that looks like one fun race... and heck id actually see conservation station... i think ive only been out there once.. :thumbsup2

I don't know much about the races but I just started C25K this week too. Tomorrow I'll do w1d3 and so far so good with it!

My first race ever was the Royal Family 5K in 2010. I also ran the Halloween 5k a year ago. Both were a lot of fun and well attended. I definitely recommend them!

The 5k's doesn't have as many runners as they 1/2 does that weekend, but it is still a lot of fun. There is entertainment on the course similar to the 1/2. The 5k with the princess weekend isn't a timed event, but you can always time yourself. I ran with my mom last year and she was a bit disappointed about that since she was expecting it to be an event with an official time.

I have never done a race at WDW. We want to do this 5K. It says that buses will be provided from event resorts. I cant pull up the list. We will be at CBR. Does anyone know if CBR is usally an event resort?
Do they provide transportation to the expo to get your stuff? How long are you usually at the expo?
Does this race usually hit capacity? I am looking to register next month..dont want to miss out lol.
About what time do you find yourself done with this race?
And how does ones family get there to watch? Do they take the runners bus? Or will the regular buses be provided for the families to get there? i need to have my spectators lol
Sorry for the questions, but I would appreciate any help :goodvibes

CBR is a host resort, so there will be transportation to the expo. You could spend a few minutes just picking up your packet at the expo, or you could spend a few hours wandering around looking at vendor booths, it's really up to you.
You'll be fine registering next month. The 1/2 just hit 51% full a week or so ago, and nothing has been posted about this race. Keep an eye on the rundisney site to see if the race starts filling up.
The amount of time you take to complete the race depends on you, your pace, and how much you stop for pictures along the way. It took us a little under an hour to finish last year because we stopped for pictures and enjoyed the experience. You can run straight through with no stops and be done in the time it usually takes you to run a 5k.
Spectators ride the same buses as runners, so they can get on with you in the morning from the hotel.

Jill,

Im in! AND I think Ive got my family in too! My Mom and Dad are going to walk it (Mom looked at the map and said "I can do that") and my sister and I are going to run it or try to. My sister is graduating C25k this week and I just started week 2 but it should be a fun time!

My DH and I are leaving our 4 kids behind to do this :) I wanted to do the 1/2 but haven't trained for it, so I downgraded it to the 5k. It will a month plus a little bit after a magic birthday (33!), so I wanted to do something special that I haven't done before.

Could anyone comment on the pacing requirement for the 5K? The run disney site says you must maintain a 16 min/mile for the 5k as well as the half. Do they sweep people during the 5k? Would love to do with my husband and 4yo DS, but not sure we can keep up the pace together.

I don't think anyone was swept this past year. I did it with my mom, and I think we crossed the finish line around 52 minutes after the clock started. It took us a few minutes to cross the start line after the clock started, but there were still people who were finishing at least 10-15 minutes later.

I plan on doing the Royal 5K with my DD9. I had thought I could do the 1/2 but I am not as in good shape as I thought I was :rotfl2: If we have the $$ we might go for the January one as well. Right now we are also planning on doing the Expedition Everest Challenge....hoping to be ready for the Wine and Dine.

I see there are characters throughout the park. Are you welcome to stop for pics, and is there photopass available? Can you bring your phone in with you?
Does this race usually meet capacity. We want to wait to the last minute to sign up cause I am not sure how my daughters knee will hold out. We are in therapy now for it and its looking good. So the slower pace might be great for us if we need it.

I did this in 09 with DH and had so much fun! I am going to start training today and sign up this week. I'm thinking of leaving DH at home with the kids and doing it with friends. I won't be taking any time off, so it'll be a quick trip down for the weekend.

I also did C25k for that first 5k and will do it again today. They have an app I downloaded to my phone and it works ok. It can be hard to keep up when you run and when you need to walk. The first time I trained, I think around week 3 or 4 I just started running as long as possible. I remember being able to run for 40 mins straight around week 6. And I totally was a couch potato...even more so now since I've had DD1.

Maybe we can make this the official thread and start a list of people going... ?

:woohoo:
