I saw on one of the local Orlando TV stations this morning that Roy Disney is at WDW this week to help the company celebrate Walt's 105th birthday on 12/5 and also to promote the release of the True Life Adventures which will be released on DVD next week. There is a new series of DVD's called the Walt Disney Legacy Collection and the True Life Adventures are the first releases from the new series.

There was a brief interview with Roy at Animal Kingdom. He talked about how Walt was very proud of the true life advenure films and that he thought he would be proud of Animal Kingdom. The reporter asked him what he would change about the park and he not a thing. He added that he felt that the park should be expanded to help communicate Disney's conservation effort.

The reporter asked him about his recent expulsion from the company by Eisner. He said that did not last long and he now is a consultant to the company.

Wonder where he stays when he's on property? Maybe I track him down before I leave!

I thought the plan was that Roy was to be the first to use the new suite in the Castle. His father had designed a large apartment in the castle for use by Roy and his family (with some occasional grudding visit from Walt's daughters).

If that is the case, it would be a nice little end to the family's connection with The Company.

end? what are they going to do, kill him while he is up there? "et tu Mickey? et tu?"

--they don't take Roy seriously at Disney. He may have his own agenda at times, but he seriously is one of the best people to ask "how would Disney do it?" that is left. And lets face it, the company is not taking a "what would Walt do?" stance on most issues. Its all about the money :( which makes no sense, because you have to spend money and make people happy if you want the money and name recognition to continue. I firmly believe if they were to take a more "Disney" stance on things they would not only make the same amount of money and make people happy but they would vastly improve sales and name recognition. never will happen...

What would Walt do?: WWWD ;)
The people they have to make happy first are the stock holders then the guests. And guests don't always want WWWD, WWWD dosen't attract guests away from Universal who don't like the Disney stance.

This week is also paying tribute to the 40th anniversary of Walt Disney's death. Walt died December 15th, 1966. I guess they are combining both anniversarys into a week long series of events. Yesterday, during a medium sized gathering, the grand daughter of Karen Dotrice sang "Feed the Birds". It has always been noted to be a favorate song of Walt Disney. Karen Dotrice is the actress that played Jane Banks in Marry Poppins.

I don't want to speak for AV, but Roy is likely the last of the family to hold the type of position he held.

It was posted on the resorts board that Roy was seen in the Conceirge lounge of the RPC at the GF.

Roy did a GREAT job in filming his aspects of TLA's both now and orginally.
Both the cast and the public were thrilled to see him! :)

Aren't both pretty much necessities? The stockholders aren't going to be happy for long if the guests aren't happy.

Nonetheless, its the Disney stance that made Disney what it is, not copying Universal's (or anybody else's) stance.

Meaning, Disney is better off focusing on their own mission, not worrying about others.

We saw him in AK on Nov 30th taping a segment for something - got a few pics of him! :smooth:

Is there a way to get info on some of the events commemorating Walt Disney? Sounds really cool.....
