Just when I think we have decided to stay at CSR this Oct, a seed of doubt is planted.

I am just wondering, how many people have actually had negative experiences at CSR because of a convention? And are conventions pretty much going on all the time there? Or is it just hit or miss, especialy in October.

Thanks.

I've never had a problem there. The convention centre is being expanded, I believe, but it's off to the side so one doesn't really see the convention guests that much, except maybe in the bar/restaurant in the evening.

I really actually like this aspect of the resort - it usually means that the busses and leisure areas are emptier for the non-convention guests.

At one time this resort had the largest ballroom in the southeast, but I believe that some other hotels have surpassed them in size (perhaps the reason for the expansion?)

There has been at least one convention going on everytime I've stayed there.
Staying in the rooms up close to the hotel there was noise, but mostly large groups going by the room talking. Staying at the free standing buildings a little farther away was quite peaceful. Forget the different sections names. You could go to another hotel though and end up with a cheerleading group. :earboy2: They never bothered me either though.

Yeah, I was thinking we would request the cabanas or ranchos, which are both further away from the convention hall. Was wondering about in the evenings, does it get crazy around the pool with the convention-goers, or does it remain family friendly?

We've stayed at CSR twice, both times with conventions and we had no problems because of them. We didn't even know any conventions were going on until I asked. This has been asked in the past and I wanted to see for myself.

Yeah, seems like the overwhelming majority of people have a great time there. Sure, there are the exceptions, but there are people that have bad experiences at all of the hotels I guess.

We went to the Contemporary once, and we did not like it, but it seems like most people do.

I am feeling better about our decision.

Thanks for the input!

Don't get me started on what I've heard about these conventions.... :D

Just ask to have a room away from the coventioneers and you should have no problem. Usually they put the conventioneers in the Casitas, which is next to the Convention Center. Request the Cabanas, and you should be OK. The only things I have heard complaints about is in the mornings and when the Conventioneers have breaks, the food courts fill up and the wait for food is pretty long!

I didn't notice any problems because of conventions. The only real time El Centro seemed crowded was when we returned from the parks or DD in the late evening--then the bar area would be busy & noisy. We've stayed in the Cabanas & Ranchos section. Both were quiet & "out of the way" & we loved both locations. Pepper Market can be crowded at peak meal times, but no more than at POR or POFQ when we've stayed there. We were always able to get a chair by the main pool (where they have great nachos & fiesta margaritas!) & the bus transportation was great. When we were there the pool bar & food window closed in the early evening. If this is always true I wouldn't think there would be many conventioners. Have a great stay!
