Route to Silver Springs

We are renting a villa at Orange Tree on US27 and are therefore conveniently placed to go to Silver Springs. We plan to take the US27 north towards Ocala. Most guidebooks advice driving right into the middle of Ocala town and turning right into SR40 that goes towards Silver Springs. But looking at large scale maps, there appears to be a shorcut that bypasses Ocala.

As we arrive at Belleview (just south of Ocala) on US27, we can turn right into SR484 and just past the railway line turn left into SR35 (or this may just be a county road 35) that goes almost dead straight to Silver Springs. Looks like we save 6 or 7 miles plus any traffic in Ocala. If anyone knows this area well, please comment on this route.

I definately can't tell you because we wandered around FOREVER when we went! It seriously seemed like a very long, twisting route off the interstate. We kept following the signs and we never thought we would actually get there! We did though, and we enjoyed it. Good luck and have fun!

That's the bit I cannot understand. Most official directions ask people to use the Florida Turnpike and I-75! That seems to make the route longer and more complicated. Our villa is right on US27 near Clermont and from there it is very straightforward to SS.

Take 27 to 75 North, take 75 to exit 352(?) SR40 and turn right. Going up 27 takes forever. I drove to Ocala for work (went to the Lowes their) for 5 years and 75 is the quickest.
