A few months ago someone asked about alternate routes from the NE around the DC/Baltimore traffic and mentioned 81-64-288-95 from western VA around Richmond. At that time 288 was still incomplete.
Today, the final section of Route 288 opened, providing a bypass around Richmond from I-64 west of the city to I-95 to the south between Richmond and Petersburg.
VDOT is still working on some areas between US 60 and the Powhite Parkway, particularly one interchange, so please use caution in that area.
Only three of the exits along the 34 mile stretch -- Hull Street, Iron Bridge Road, and US 1 -- have much in the way of restaurants, hotels, and gas stations
