Roseanne back

I have clearly said, at least twice, if not three times that what she said was racist and ignorant. Not sure how that is "a seeming lack of realizing that Roseanne crossed over to blatant racism". Seems to me that its saying the same thing but maybe I am not understanding you.
And so you have. I want to stop and acknowledge that you have said that you thought that what Roseanne said was "hateful and ignorant" and that ABC did the right thing by cancelling the show. You said that on your very first post on the subject. However, your conversations on this thread have diminished that rebuke in the minds of many here, myself included. By using rhetorical arguments of "whataboutism" and its kissing cousins "both sides do it" and "false equivalency" in your posts you are in fact defending Roseanne Barr. Maybe you don't think you are and maybe you don't intend to, but that's how it comes across :(. I have always viewed those arguments as a double-edged sword of (1) defending the person or idea that is being discussed and (2) attacking the "other side" by calling them out as hypocrites because they are not as incensed about the other person or idea who is brought up in the argument.

I really do believe that you feel that Roseanne was wrong, but I just think that you muddied the waters with all the rest of what you've said.

never mind, quoted the wrong post that I wanted to love :goodvibes

IMO character matters IMMENSELY in that particular job. You are a leader.

It should, although history has shown many of our most effective leaders had serious character flaws, while some of our least effective leaders were really good people.

Of course, sometimes you get one who is a poor leader AND a bad person, and every once in a while, you get one who is both effective as a leader and a good person (though that’s the unicorn in that world).

:confused3 Just a simple question why you think this thread should go away?

I am truly curious why someone would want a thread closed.

I don't think the poster you quoted wants the thread to go away necessarily. But many of us expect it to be locked any second now because some posts toe the line of politics, which is a prohibited discussion on the Dis. As soon as these kind of threads devolve into that, it's usually done. And some of the recent posts above cross that line, IMO.

She asked for it to go away long before it devolved into political innuendo. The thread was still just revolving around Barr's tweet and the difference between her tweet and statements by people on the View and other show business people.

There's only one place these kind of topics end up. Especially when Roseanne is so closely tied to politics.

Not an excuse at all but Roseanne suffered a major brain injury as a teen and I think it influences her actions.
I've worked with people with TBI and they often lack impulse control and good judgement.

You are correct. Not an excuse. A TBI does not make you racist.

Most people I know who have managed to be successful with a TBI have tools in place not to self-destruct and show who they really are.

Well I guess that makes sense about not knowing when to just shut up and stop blaming others for what is happening to her, she apparently is back on twitter lashing out at some of the cast (that she previously apologized too) that they threw her under the bus.
I was wondering wth was wrong with her (racism aside) and why she can't just apologize and leave it at that.

No it doesn't make sense. Just another talking point to try to justify and minimize what Barr is doing by her supporters. (Not the previous poster, but others who are using the excuse to be ok with what she is doing.)

Saying people who have TBIs have an excuse for such horrible behavior is a smack down on so many who are living with TBIs and manage their lives and their actions successfully using their tools in life.

I never knew that about her so I just looked it up. That would actually explain a lot, but as you say it's no excuse for racism. It certainly explains her lack of filter which actually made her famous with a net worth of $80 million (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/money/a19662519/roseanne-barr-net-worth/).
