Rose & Crown lunch 6/7/2013

Great review. I am not a fish fan and your husband's plate doesn't look too impressive. Was there anything else on the menu worth a try? Or is this pretty much a fish place.

People at the table next to us were having the cottage pie and loving it, and if I hadn't been in a fish & chips mood I would have ordered the bangers and mash. I'd say there's a pretty nice selection of things to choose from....

Yes! We've had the bangers & mash, fish, cottage pie, shepherd's pie (not on the menu at the moment) & steak. The cheese trio app and scotch egg - excellent! We love this place!

What enjoyable reviews ! :)

The R&C (and it's delightful pub ;) ) have been one of our favorite places to be in all of the park for at least the past twenty years and then some..

Yes, we've seen the quality and quantity of the food waver somewhat in the wake of the dining plans, but all in all it remains a wonderful place to eat and drink. (The scallops looked amazing in the pic you posted, as did the Dover sole from Tutto...) :thumbsup2

Thanks for taking the time to post such great reviews !

And thank you so much, truly, for commenting, adding your experiences, and for the kind feedback! It really does make the effort worthwhile to hear that people enjoy the reviews!

And I totally agree -- the dining plans have had a variety of impacts on dining at WDW over the years, but we keep going back and we continue to really look forward to all the restaurant experiences and great food:thumbsup2

I think maybe it's a combination of things that have changed Disney restaurants over the years. While I'm sure the increased popularity of the dining plans has contributed a certain amount to this, I think that like other similar types of locations (other theme parks, stadiums, movie theaters, etc.), WDW had a captive audience and thus could get away with charging higher prices than a similar restaurant off property would be able to, and still keep the restaurants full. Plus, we have noticed in our area (NYC) as well as others when we venture out and travel, it's either a decrease in portion sizes and types of offerings on menus we have noticed, or an increase in price. This has been over the last 5 years or so, and we have noticed it pretty much everywhere we go, not just WDW.

Magical Express and Disney transportation have enticed more people to stay on property, giving Disney even more of a captive audience (people do not have to rent a car if they stay on property, and there is so much to do that they can spend a whole vacation without venturing to off property Orlando attractions).

Either way, we still enjoy the food at WDW! We don't get any of the dining plans (we use the TIW card) and we still try to eat at as many Disney restaurants as possible. And if we couldn't get the TIW card and didn't do the dining plans (none ever fit into our restaurant plans), we would still do our trips the same as we do now. It's a matter of preference and we prefer to eat on property.

Totally agree. Prices are up, and portions are down everywhere (it absolutely drives me crazy that the *standard* is now 4 lb, rather than 5 lb bags of sugar -- sheesh, just charge me what 5 lbs cost and get it over with;))

The more I learn about TiW, the more I think we'll try it next time. But as you say, either way, we'll go and we'll stay on property and we'll eat on property (and enjoy ourselves to the fullest!).

That's right...grocery shopping has become more expensive for some items and just more often for others. Orange juice used to be 64 ounces and it's now 46! The carton is the same height as it used to be but slightly narrower. Same price, less juice. :rolleyes:Produce? Just way more expensive. That doesn't mean I stop buying healthy food for my family though.

We have ADRs for lunch on Nov 13. I was planning to get the ploughman's lunch, but after seeing the picture...I'm sure it's delicious but I agree with your husband, for some reason it's not how I expected it to look. I'll have to look over the menu again...

Thanks for the info on the Rose & Crown and the photos. Very helpful. We have an ADR here for dinner and I was thinking of having the fish and chips, it's always helpful to see the portion sizes and what the dishes look like. I also love scallops and they do look yummy. Lol.

My DH paused at the table she was giving us and said, "I know you're very busy this afternoon, and that I should have said something when we checked in, but I wondered if, please, there is any way we could get a table inside? We'd be willing to wait longer." The CM went back up to the podium, found us a table inside, and we thanked her profusely. She was very nice and she said to my DH, "my pleasure -- and it really helped that you said 'please.'" .

We just watched The Princess Bride with our girls. This so reminds me of when the dread Prate Roberts tells Princess Buttercup "It was the please that caught my memory."

Anyway, thank you for the great review. We have only been to Disney World once 4 years ago. I honestly do not remember the food at The Rose & Crown because my girls were dressed as princesses and the CM saw them and then went to Norway to get the paper crowns. It was just such a nice sweet thing.
