Rose & Crown for Dinner - Bad Choice?

I was going to try to get a PS for R & C one night of our honeymoon (in October) b/c of the view of Illuminations, but now I'm not so sure. I've just read more than a few bad reviews of it. Any advice? I'd just like to know if you think that the view is worth the food. :) Would we be better off with an earlier seating at a different restaurant?

Thank you!!! :wave2:

We went last December and stayed for Illuminations. The mushroom appetizer was tasty, the entree of three pies was very good. The atmosphere was great and I loved having an excellent view of the show without having to stand and wait.

The reviews lately have been less than wonderful. If this is your only table service meal I might encourage you to try elsewhere. If not...consider it an an adventure and enjoy the show.

We always eat at R&C on every trip. It is a tradition for us to eat here on every visit. We also enjoy dining at Le Cellier & Chef's de France in EPCOT.

I've noticed all the "bad" reviews, too, but DH and I still go almost every trip. He likes the fish & chips and I like the cottage pie (well, he also likes the beer sampler!). DH has never had the problem discussed on other threads of soggy fish; maybe we've just been lucky but we've dined there at least 12 times. We really enjoy eating there but we don't expect "fine dining," just a nice casual sit-down meal in a cool place.

Thanks everyone! We are going to do Jiko's one night, and we are using the dining plan, so we will get to a few table-service meals. I think we'll stick with our original plans. I guess I forget that you need to take reviews with a grain of salt!

Thank you!

Let us know what you think when you get back :) . And, Congratulations!

We love eating at the Rose and Crown! We have never even gotten an outside table and we still love it! They let you go out onto the patio area during the show anyway and it is just a marvelous view. I love the atmosphere and the waitresses have always been so fun and so good to us! We always go to Disney around our wedding anniversary and let the restaurant staff know we're celebrating it. Last year our Rose and Crown waitress wrote us a personal note of congratulations on our receipt which I thought was pretty special of her. I say go - the fish and chips are great but the pub atmosphere and great view of Illuminations are even better!

I have to say I love this place. The food is only okay, but the view is great, the beer is great, and the piano guy is a lot of fun. We have enjoyed ourselves everytime. Sing and dance along with the piano man. You won't regret it.

We never had a bad meal at Rose and Crown- the last time I was there was January 2005- I had the roasted chicken and it was delicious!! My hubby always gets bangers and mash and he loves that.

You will read good and bad reviews on all the restaurants. Best thing to do is to try it and see if you like it. We very much enjoy the food at Rose and Crown.

It is probably our favorite restaurant as well. We've never had a bad meal there and the atmosphere is wonderful and fun! Let us know what you think!

We have eaten there quite a few times and only once were we seated indoors :earsboy: Unfortunately, they have eliminated two of our "usual" choices from the menu (prime rib for DW and DDs, and the pie sampler for me). The wait staff were always great, but with the menu change, I doubt that we'll return.
