Ok. . .a request out to the food porn folk. Does someone have a pic of Rose & Crown's Sunday Roast Dinner? (with yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, vegetable & gravy)

I was hoping to grab an ADR for our upcoming trip. Sort of sad that I keep reading poor reviews. . . (ho-hum food comments)

Have been scoping through a lot of the food review posts but haven't seen many Rose & Crown entries.

Share some pics of R&C food. . .am I making an error in wanting to dine here?
(I can be happy with the Fish & Chips and Strongbow cider!):thumbsup2

Would love soem reviews as well...have an ADR for April. Thinking of just the mixed greens salad and leek soup- not sure what DH would get...mostly going there for the chance to see Illuminations from the patio.

I don't have pics of that actual dish but I do have some others that I can post when I get home. My DH and I were there in January and we had the leek soup as well as the cheese plate for apps both were good, although I preferred the soup at Biergarten (maybe that was just because of the pretzel bread they had for dipping there) The cheese plate was very good it had very nice portions and a lot of nice things to go with the cheese. I also like that they put the stilton in a puff pastery to cut down on the intense flavor. I had the fish and chips which were good and a very large portion and my DH had the burger which was also good. We liked this restaurant but it is nothing more than normal pub type food however all of ours tasted very good, was prepared well, and came out nice and hot.

I am by no means a negative person, and I do not want to discourage you from eating here since everyone has different opinions and experiences. I would like to tell you of our experience there in December.

Number 1: We were the first people signed in for our lunch reservation when they opened. They sat us outside in extremely cold and windy temperatures with my one year old. He was miserable and too cold to eat. We were not told that this was an outside restaurant (if we were told of this we would have reconsidered since it was cold and we have an infant), and were not given an option for inside once we signed in.

Number 2: They sat us at a table over a sewer drain. We had to smell
sewage the entire time we were there.

Number 3: My fish and chips were terrible. By far, this was the worst food we had on our 7 day trip, and all other Disney trips I have been on. The fish and chips next door at England's fast food place is much, much better than than they serve here. The fish was much too chewy, so I didn't eat my lunch at all. My husband had the Bangers and Mash and he enjoyed his food. I don't have pictures of it though.

My husband was very excited about trying Rose and Crown, but he did decide as we sat there freezing and smelling the sewage, that we would not return there in the future.

I hope your experience is better than ours. Good luck!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but I worked there so I just wanted to point out that the fish and chips in the quick service next door are actually exactly the same as what you get in the restaurant. The only difference being that you get a much BIGGER portion inside the restaurant.

Also it is first available table that you are seated at, and the majority of the restaurant is outside, so it was more likely that you would be seated outside than inside, but unfortunately, not a lot of people know that when they check in.

Thank you thus far to all who responded to my thread. I do appreciate the insight. I feel badly for those who had a less than wonderful experience. . . it can happen anywhere, anytime. . .but nothing worse than having it leave a 'smudge' on a vacation.

I'm still game for having a meal there. . .though will keep alert for any additional comments/reviews/ (and) pics!

Thank you so much!!!

. . .off topic. . . the UK area of World Showcase is my husband's and my favorite spot! . . .the lovely gardens, the entertainment, sitting on the curb and enjoying a pint! My husband was stationed in England while in the Air Force a few decades back. He is a fairly quiet fellow. . .but on our last trip, he struck up a conversation with a few of the CMs. . . he started going on about how he missed the fried sausages & chips and the CMs told him of what they yearned for from home. . . It was just nice conversation and we enjoyed our time there so very much. . . either way---Rose & Crown dining or not----we'll be spending a lot of time there. . . :goodvibes

Here it is...

This is what my mom had, she said it was just ok, she preferred the "Surf & Turf" Steak.

We loved Rose and Crown. The food is very good (at least what we had). I had lamb and it was WONDERFUL *shivers*. :cloud9:

In fact the food is so good that I use the recipe for the potato leek soup and the chicken leek pie and make it at home frequently (it doesn't last long)

We had lunch there this past Dec. I was the only one not thrilled with my entree, but that was my fault for what I ordered. My mom and husband both had the cheese plates and I had the Scotch egg. I had the hamburger, my husband loved his fish and chips, and my mom loved her Bangers & Mash. For desserts we had lemon pie, sticky toffee pudding, and Bailey's Irish cream. Again the only thing we did not like was the hamburger. My husband and I also had a Leapin' Leprechaun and a Welsh Dragon to drink.

We requested and received a table outside. It was very nice that day and we had a wonderful, peaceful lunch. Despite not liking my hamburger, I have a dinner reservation there for my next trip in May.

This was our favorite meal of our last trip. We had the best seat in the house for Illuminations, saw a rocket blast off from KSC and really enjoyed the food. DH had the fish & steak and loved it. I had the cottage pie and it was good but a little salty and needed a salad to go along with it. The table next to us ordered the vegetarian cottage pie and got a nice salad but I guess they figure us "meat" eaters didn't need one.:lmao: The service was lovely and the sticky toffee pudding and coffee while watching Illuminations was one of my best food experiences EVER at WDW.:thumbsup2

DH and I ate at R&C last Oct. and had a very nice lunch. The scotch egg appie is awesome. But we also had a problem when we were seated. It was a very, very hot and humid day and we were the first people to check in (for our ADR)when they opened for lunch. The restaurant was totally empty, but the host took us to an outside table in the direct sun. When I asked for a table inside ( in the air conditioning) she got a bit snarky and said she did not know if this was possible and that most people love the outside view. I insisted and she made us wait about 15 min. to be seated inside. Our server was wonderful and told us he did not know why they try to push everyone outdoors, in the heat, when the inside was available.
I could maybe understand if we were a walkup...they were taking quite a few, but we had one of the first ADRs of the day and were the first to check in......so I'm really not so sure the statement, "first available" is accurate.

The first available table was the rule that we had to go by. However, it will have been different for you since you got there when the restaurant was empty. The rule applies more to when the restaurant is full, and when a table opens up, that's the first available table.
When you check in you can (if it's not too busy) request to be inside or out, but it's only a request, and is not guaranteed.

We ate there this past Saturday.

My DD got the Sunday Roast (we teased her she shouldn't have ordered it on a Saturday!) :)

The potatoes and broccoli were great and the roast was good (had a bit more fat than I was expecting and a couple of bites were rather salty). I had a fair amount of my DD's meal as she wasn't feeling her best last weekend. I had the grilled pork loin w/the stewed fruits and nuts. Yum!

I have pics but they're still on the camera and I need to adjust the white balance to remove the red lighting from the heating elements above the tables in the outside covered area (was a bit chilly Sat. evening)
